Reynaldo Young
Reynaldo Young . 1966is a Uruguayan composer, arranger, guitarist, teacher and workshop leader. He has written concert pieces as well as music for dance, theatre, and video – many of them performed worldwide; he is also an active player at the free improvisation scene around Europe and the United Kingdom. Founder and director of the ‘Cardboard Citizens New Music Ensemble’, the UK’s only professional avant-garde music group whose members are all homeless people, refugees and asylum seekers; writing, directing and performing contemporary and improvisatory music with mixed ensembles of professional and non-professional musicians is one of his main fields of expertise (a skill he acknowledges he learned working with his former teacher Daryl Runswick). Cardboard Citizens is the UK's only homeless people's professional theatre company, and the leading practitioner of Forum Theatre and the Theatre of the Oppressed methodology in the UK. The acclaimed theatre company works with people who have experience of homelessness or those at risk of becoming homeless to create theatre that makes a real and positive difference to society and those living in its margins. History and productions Cardboard Citizens was founded in 1991 by Adrian Jackson, MBE, in the Cardboard City that had sprung up in what was then called the Bullring in Waterloo as a London Bubble project.
