A vehicle fire is an undesired conflagration (uncontrolled burning) involving a motor vehicle. Also termed car fire, it is one of the most common causes of fire-related property damage. In 23 percent of the cases of highway vehicle fires reported during the 2014-6 period to the U.S. Fire Administration’s National Fire Incident Reporting System, no cause had been determined. As at July 2018, another 10 percent of these reported cases were still under investigation.
