Carabins
The Montréal Carabins are the men's and women's athletic teams that represent the Université de Montréal in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Teams play at the CEPSUM Stadium and at l'aréna du CEPSUM, located at the Université de Montréal campus. History of the club Alpine ski Badminton Cheerleading The Carabins cheerleading team was created in 2002 at the same time as the rebirth of the Carabins football team. The team has hosted Super Bowl parties in order to finance its activities. Football The Carabins football program was originally in operation from 1966 to 1971, but was cut following a philosophical change with intercollegiate athletics among Quebec universities at the time. As that perception changed, the football team was reinstated in 2002 and has been in continuous operation since. Dunsmore Cup
The Dunsmore Cup (french: Coupe Dunsmore) is a Canadian sports trophy, presented annually to the winner of the university-level football competition conducted by Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ), the governing body for all student sports in the province of Quebec. The RSEQ university football conference, one of four within U Sports, was known as the Quebec University Football League before the 2011 season. The Cup was first awarded in 1980 to the winner of the Ontario-Quebec Interuniversity Football Conference and, upon re-organization into the Quebec Intercollegiate Football Conference (later the Quebec University Football League and now part of RSEQ), continues to be awarded as the Quebec conference's championship. The winner of the Dunsmore Cup goes on to play in either the Uteck Bowl or the Mitchell Bowl national semi-final, depending on annual rotations. Vanier Cup
The Vanier Cup (french: Coupe Vanier) is the championship of Canadian university football. It is organized by U Sports football and is currently played between the winners of the Uteck Bowl and the Mitchell Bowl. It is named after Georges Vanier, the former governor general of Canada and was first awarded in 1965 to the winner of an invitational event contested between two teams that were selected by a panel. In 1967, the trophy was declared the official "CIAU National Football Championship" and a playoff system was instituted. From its creation until 1982, it was known as the Canadian College Bowl. The game typically occurs in late November, although it is occasionally played in December. The Laval Rouge et Or have won the most Vanier Cups (11), while the Western Mustangs have the most appearances (15). 50th Vanier Cup
The 2014 Vanier Cup, the 50th edition of the Canadian university football championship, took place on Saturday, November 29, 2014 at Molson Stadium in Montreal, Quebec. It featured the OUA champion McMaster Marauders and the RSEQ champion Montréal Carabins. This was the first appearance for the Carabins and the fourth for the Marauders. It was the first time that the city of Montreal hosted the Vanier Cup and it was organized by the Canadian Football League's Montreal Alouettes as opposed to a member CIS club. For the second consecutive year the championship game was played in the province of Quebec. The CEPSUM (french: Centre d'éducation physique et des sports de l'Université de Montréal, also le Stade du CEPSUM) is a multi-purpose complex sport centre located on the campus of the Université de Montréal in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The CEPSUM hosts the Montreal Carabins teams. History In 1963-1964, the Université de Montréal purchased the building belonging to the Young Men's and Young Women's Hebrew Association, situated on the corner of Park Avenue and Mount Royal Avenue. The Centre at that time had a swimming pool, a gymnasium, a palestre, and an auditorium. The Montreal Carabins of this period used the outside installations of the Jeanne-Mance Park. U Sports Men's Soccer Championship
The U Sports men's soccer championship is a Canadian university soccer tournament which involves the champions from each of Canada's four regional sports conferences. The championship features eight teams in single-elimination matches to determine a national champion. The championship hosts 11 games over four days at a predetermined host venue. The host team is automatically qualified for the tournament, as is each of the conference champions, with additional berths awarded for the remaining spots. The Sam Davidson Memorial Trophy is awarded to the winners. The UBC Thunderbirds have won the most championships with 13. The 2020 championship tournament was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. U Sports Football
U Sports football is the highest level of amateur play of Canadian football and operates under the auspices of U Sports (formerly Canadian Interuniversity Sport). Twenty-seven teams from Canadian universities are divided into four athletic conferences, drawing from the four regional associations of U Sports: Canada West Universities Athletic Association, Ontario University Athletics, Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec, and Atlantic University Sport. At the end of every season, the champions of each conference advance to semifinal bowl games; the winners of these meet in the Vanier Cup national championship. The origins of North American football can be traced here, where the first documented game was played at University College at the University of Toronto in 1861. The Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ; literal translation: ''Quebec Student Sports Network'') is the current name for the organisation formerly known as the Fédération du sport scolaire du Québec (FSSQ; ''Quebec Student Sports Federation''). RSEQ is the governing body of primary and secondary school, collegiate and university sport in Quebec.
