Luigi Capuana
Luigi Capuana (May 28, 1839 – November 29, 1915) was an Italian author and journalist and one of the main exponents of '' Verismo''. He was a contemporary of Giovanni Verga, both having been born in the province of Catania within a year of each other. He was also one of the first Italian authors influenced by the works of Émile Zola, French author and creator of naturalism. His critical theories on naturalism envisaged the ultimate fusion of the novel into a purely scientific, impersonal, case-history. Biography Early life and education Luigi Capuana was born in Mineo, in the Province of Catania, the first of eight children. His family was wealthy, and owned property in the area. He attended the local school. In 1851 he enrolled in the Royal College of Bronte, Catania, but left after only 2 years because of bad health. However, he continued to study by teaching himself. Maria Capuana
Maria Capuana (2 September 1891 – 22 February 1955) was an Italian mezzo-soprano who had a major international opera career during the first half of the 20th century. She possessed a voice with a dark timbre that she used with great expression. Born in Fano in the Province of Pesaro and Urbino, Capuana was the older sister of conductor Franco Capuana. She was trained in the art of singing and piano performance at the Conservatory of San Pietro a Majella in Naples where she was a pupil of Beniamino Carelli. She made her stage debut in 1916 at the opera house in Reggio Emilia as Amneris in Giuseppe Verdi's ''Aida''; a role which she would repeat at many major opera houses internationally later in her career and notably record for the opera's first commercial recording in 1928. Mario Capuana
Mario Capuana (1576 in Sicily – 4 May 1647 in Noto) was an Italian composer of motets and a requiem. He was ''maestro di capella'' at the Cathedral of Noto in the Province of Syracuse from 1628 to his death in 1647. In the years before and immediately after his death were published a small flurry of works in Venice. Editions *''Messa da requiem a 4'' (Venice, posthumous 1650) – edited with Requiem (1653) of Bonaventura Rubino. 1999. Franco Capuana
Franco Capuana (29 September 189410 December 1969) was an Italian conductor. Born in Fano in the Province of Pesaro and Urbino, he was the younger brother of mezzo-soprano Maria Capuana. He became associated with the Teatro di San Carlo in 1930 and La Scala in 1937. In 1940 he conducted the premiere of Ghedini's opera '' La pulce d'oro'' at the Teatro Carlo Felice. He visited the Royal Opera House in 1946, becoming the first guest conductor of the newly formed Royal Opera, London. He died at the age of 75 on the conductor's podium in the middle of leading a performance of Rossini's '' Mosè in Egitto'' at the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples.
