Brian Cappelletto
Brian Cappelletto (born 1969) is a ''Scrabble'' player who represents the United States in international competition. He was the runner-up at the inaugural World Scrabble Championship in World Scrabble Championship 1991, 1991 and won the event in World Scrabble Championship 2001, 2001. He also won the American National Scrabble Championship in 1998, and was the runner-up in 2008 and 2010. Cappelletto appeared in Stefan Fatsis's book ''Word Freak (book), Word Freak'', which follows the stories of several of Scrabble's top players in North America. Fatsis calls him "Scrabble's first child prodigy". The documentary ''Scrabylon'', about the 2001 World Championship, also features Cappelletto as a central character. Cappelletto first appeared as a Division 1 player at the 1987 National Scrabble Championship, winning 16 of his 21 games and finishing with a winning spread of 1300. Santa Maria a Monte is a ''comune'' in the Province of Pisa in the Italian region of Tuscany. The town lies about west of Florence and about east of Pisa. Geography The main ''frazioni'' are the villages of Cerretti, Montecalvoli, San Donato and Tavolaia. History Famous for its military strategic importance (the hilly position made it more defendable against enemy attacks), Santa Maria a Monte has always been disputed between several Tuscan cities. As a matter of fact, Santa Maria a Monte passed from the influence of Lucca under the influence of Florence and, in the end, it became part of the Pisa territory. A famous landmark is Casa Carducci, where the Italian poet Giosuè Carducci is said to have spent his childhood.
