Capdown
Capdown is an English punk rock band from Milton Keynes. Originally known as Soap, their songs have political themes as alluded to by their name, which is a portmanteau of Capitalist Downfall. Mixing ska, punk, hardcore, dub, drum and bass, and reggae, Capdown built a reputation around their independent releases and numerous tours. Career The band members had been playing together since the age of 14. The band, originally known as Soap, had sent the demo of the ''Time For Change'' EP to the indie Household Name Records in 1998 and had played a gig with Link 80 at the record company's request, which led to them being signed onto the label. The EP was released in 1999 under the new name of the band, Capdown (short for Capitalist Downfall). In May 2000, Household Name Records released Capdown's debut album '' Civil Disobedients''. Pound For The Sound
''Pound for the Sound'' is the second full-length studio album by UK ska punk band Capdown, released on 10 September 2001 by the London-based indie label Household Name Records. It is the follow-up to the previous year's '' Civil Disobedients''. The songs are a mix of hardcore and the ska-core sound. The lyrics in the album show a positive attitude towards life and lyrical themes include overcoming tough situations and racism (the song "Judgement Days"). "Dub #2" is the only instrumental. The album peaked at #43 on the UK Independent Albums Chart. Slam Dunk Records or Slam Dunk Music is a British independent record label, promoter and concert organising company, founded in Leeds, England, in 2007. Some notable signees include You Me at Six and Decade. The label evolved from "Slam Dunk", a weekly club night held at the city's Cockpit music venue, centered on emo, punk, ska and metal music. Household Name Records is a DIY punk rock record label, based in London, UK founded in 1996. It has been home to notable artists including Capdown, Howards Alias, Lightyear, and Adequate Seven. Biography Household Name Records was started in 1996 by David "Lil" Giles and Katherine "Kafren" Vik to promote unknown UK bands. Encouraged after successfully releasing their first compilation the team planned several more releases. To begin with the label focused on hardcore punk. In May 2000, the label released Capdown's debut album ''Civil Disobedients''. The album featured hardcore, but also mixed in ska and dub. According to Drowned in sound the album kick-started an underground punk scene. The album went on to be listed at 76 in the NME's top one hundred list for the decade. Link 80 was an American punk rock/ska punk band from San Francisco's East Bay (San Francisco Bay Area), East Bay, United States. Band history Link 80 started in the summer 1993 in the East Bay (California), East Bay of California. Deconstruction Tour
Deconstruction Tour was a one-day punk music and skate festival that was staged in various countries across Europe. It first took place in 1999 and occurred annually until 2006. The tour was arranged by Destiny Tourbooking. In general, the tour offered the opening slot of each day to a local, often unsigned band, with the following acts increasing in notability throughout the lineup. The festival also included displays by BMX riders and skaters. Aside from the first year, 2006 was possibly the least successful for the tour, due to problems with booking bands and the limited number of dates that were booked. Dub is a musical style that grew out of reggae in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Ska Punk
Ska punk (also spelled ska-punk) is a fusion genre that mixes ska music and punk rock music. Ska punk tends to feature brass instruments, especially Horn (instrument), horns such as trumpets, trombones and woodwind instruments like saxophones, making the genre distinct from other forms of punk rock. It is closely tied to third wave ska, which reached its zenith in the mid-1990s. Before ska punk began, many ska bands and punk rock bands performed on the same bills.
