Tom Canty
Thomas "Tom" Canty is a fictitious character from Mark Twain's 1881 novel ''The Prince and the Pauper.'' He was born the same day as Edward Tudor, the Prince of Wales in 1537 and grew up in a life of poverty with his abusive, alcoholic father and grandmother. His mother and his sisters always tried to protect him. He wasn't well educated but learned Latin from Father Andrew, a local priest. One day, while taking a stroll, he meets Edward. They exchange clothes with one another, and then due to a mistake, it is assumed that Tom is the Prince of Wales, not Edward. When King Henry VIII died, Edward was to be crowned King, but Tom is nearly crowned instead. Fortunately this did not happen, and Tom is saved. At the last moment, Edward comes in and proves that he is the rightful King by knowing where the Great Seal of England was, having hidden it just after they had switched clothes. Canty Bay
Canty Bay is a small inlet and coastal hamlet on the northern coast of East Lothian, Scotland. It is east of North Berwick and is opposite the Bass Rock and Tantallon Castle. Other settlements nearby include Auldhame, Scoughall, Seacliff, and the Peffer Sands. Canty Bay means "bay of the little head" from the Gaelic , diminutive of '. The Glen Golf Club is close to its western side, and to the east there are high coastal cliffs. There are two beaches separated by a rocky headland. The western beach is uninhabited and accessible by two paths that descend the grass-covered cliffs from the eastern end of the Glen golf course. The eastern beach is by the hamlet. This former fishing hamlet has been immortalised by William McGonagall in his poem ''Beautiful North Berwick and its surroundings''. Canty House
Canty House, also known as "The Magnolia," is a historic home located on the campus of West Virginia State University at Institute, Kanawha County, West Virginia. It was built about 1900, as a simply designed, two-story frame farm house. In 1923, it was remodeled to its present form in the Classical Revival style. It has flanking two-story side galleries and a center pedimented pavilion. It features a two-story portico supported by two Corinthian order columns. It was originally the home of "Colonel" James M. Canty, one of the early instructors at the West Virginia Colored Institute.
