Canon Medical Arena
Park Community Arena, known for sponsorship reasons as Canon Medical Arena, is a sports arena located within the Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park in Sheffield, England. The arena's main tenants are the Sheffield Sharks and Sheffield Hatters basketball teams, who relocated from their previous homes at Ponds Forge and All Saints Sports Centre for the start of the 2023–24 season. The arena has a capacity of 2,500 seats for basketball matches. History Plans were in place for a 2,500 capacity basketball arena within the Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park on the site of the former Don Valley Stadium as far back as 2016. After subsequent delays and changes to the plans, the £14 million Park Community Arena, developed by Canon Medical Systems, broke ground in 2022. The club have been mainstays of the women's game in England for many years, having celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2011, and were founder members of the professional Women's British Basketball League, which launched in 2014. Ponds Forge International Sports Centre is a leisure complex in Sheffield, England. It has an Olympic-sized swimming pool with 2,600 seating capacity, a family and children's pools (50 m Competition pool and 25 metre diving pit), water slides amongst other facilities. Managed by Everyone Active on behalf of the Sheffield City Council. History Ponds Forge was opened in 1991 as a venue for the Summer Universiade, which the city hosted that year. In the 1994 UK Sports Design Awards, Ponds Forge was highly commended in the overall category, and for the use of steel in its construction it won the British Steel Award. Don Valley Stadium
Don Valley Stadium, England, was a stadium in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, completed in 1990, and hosted the 1991 World Student Games. It was named after the nearby River Don. The stadium was demolished in 2013. The stadium and facilities were also used for a variety of other events and sports. It served as a training base for the City of Sheffield Athletic Club and was the home of the Sheffield Half Marathon. It was the home ground of the Sheffield Eagles from 1991 to 2013.
