Cannes Film Festival 2025
The 78th annual Cannes Film Festival took place from 13 to 24 May 2025. French actress Juliette Binoche served as jury president for the main competition. Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi won the Palme d'Or, the festival's top prize, for the drama film ''It Was Just an Accident.'' Nicole Françoise Florence Dreyfus (; 27 April 1932 2024), known professionally as Anouk Aimée () or Anouk, was a French film actress who appeared in 70 films from 1947 until 2019. Having begun her film career at age 14, she studied acting and dance in her early years, besides her regular education. Sepideh Farsi (; born 1965) is an Iranian film director. Early life and education Born in a politically active, left-wing family, Farsi became an activist at a young age. She moved from Tehran to Mashhad shortly before the 1979 revolution, and spent eight months in prison for hiding a friend and fellow student during the 1981–1982 Iran Massacres. ''Put Your Soul on Your Hand and Walk'' is a 2025 documentary film directed by Sepideh Farsi, depicting life in Gaza during the ongoing Israeli military campaign, captured through Farsi's video calls with a young woman living there. A co-production between France, Palestine and Iran, the documentary had its world premiere at the ACID parallel section of the 78th Cannes Film Festival on 15 May 2025. Palestinian photojournalist Fatima Hassouna, interviewed by Farsi for the film, was killed in an Israeli airstrike alongside nine members of her family on 16 April 2025, the day after the film was selected for the ACID section. Fatima Hassouna
Fatima Hassouna ( ; 1999 – 16 April 2025), sometimes spelled Fatma Hassona, was a Palestinian photojournalist whose work documented civilian life during the Gaza war. She gained international recognition for her visceral documentation of war impacts and became the subject of the documentary film ''Put Your Soul on Your Hand and Walk'', selected for the ACID film programme shown in parallel with the 2025 Cannes Film Festival.
