Canelas, Durango
Canelas is a town and seat of the municipality of Canelas, in the state of Durango, northwestern Mexico. Canelas is also known for a wedding that took place, that of the famous Mexican drug lord Joaquín Guzmán Loera and Emma Coronel Aispuro. Reports indicate that this wedding took place in 2007 in Canelas. As of 2010, the town had a population of 734. Geography Canelas is located in the Sierra Madre Occidental. It is surrounded by pine trees. Its location gives Canelas humid sub-tropical weather. Many people have been benefited with the natural resource of the forest and involved in logging. Emma Modesta Coronel Aispuro (; born July 2, 1989) is an American former teenage beauty queen. She is known for being the wife of Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán, considered Mexico's most-wanted drug lord until he was imprisoned for life. Domingo Arrieta León (August 4, 1874 - November 18, 1962) was a Mexican general and statesman who fought in the Mexican Revolution of 1910 and was later elected the governor of Durango State, Mexico. Early life Arrieta León was born in Canelas, in the Mexican state of Durango on August 4, 1874. He was the son of Teófilo Arrieta and Soledad León. He worked as a ranchero in his youth, and earned enough to set up as an entrepreneur muleskinner, transporting goods by mule around the region. Although illiterate, Arrieta León was said to have an excellent memory.
