Cando López
Justo Cándido López Fregueda (1906 – death unknown), known as Cando López, was a Cuban professional baseball center fielder and left fielder in the Negro leagues and briefly in Cuba in the 1920s and 1930s. A native of Havana, Cuba, López made his Negro leagues debut in 1926 with the Cuban Stars (West). He played five seasons with the club, then went on to play for the Cuban Stars (East) and New York Cubans. López was selected to play in the East–West All-Star Game in 1939 East–West All-Star Game (second game), 1939, his final season. Lopez also played briefly in the Cuban Winter League for Team Cuba (Cuban League), Team Cuba in the 1927–28 season. Catherine Cando Cornejo (June 7, 1995 – January 10, 2015) was an Ecuadorean beauty queen who won the Queen of Durán pageant. A prize for the winner was a free liposuction procedure. Cando died as a result of complications during the operation at the age of 19. Background Catherine Cando Cornejo was the youngest of five children and grew up in Durán Canton, Ecuador. Cando was studying medicine at the Catholic University of Guayaquil with an interest in social work and helping the elderly. While a student, her sister-in law encouraged her to enter the Queen of Durán contest. She won the contest in October 2014. One of the pageant's prizes was a plastic surgery procedure. Cando reportedly refused the procedure at first. At the pageant, she met Dr Ecuador, a plastic surgeon who was a judge on the pageant's panel. Charles Lamarque-Cando (12 January 1901 – 30 November 1989) was a French politician. Biography Lamarque-Cando was born on 12 January 1901 in Onard. His father was a farmer, and his mother was a schoolteacher. Lamarque-Cando attended a normal school in Mont-de-Marsan and began his teaching career at a French-language school in San Sebastián, Spain. Upon his return to France, Lamarque-Cando continued teaching at Aire-sur-Adour, and became politically active. He served as federal secretary of the and soon joined the French Section of the Workers' International (SFIO). In February 1934, Lamarque-Cando founded an anti-fascist organization, and joined a socialist association based in Landes, serving as the latter group's secretary from September 1936. Lamarque-Cando won his first political office in the February 1936 cantonal elections with 62 percent of the vote, and immediately planned to contest the 1936 French legislative elections. Cando ( ) is a city in Towner County, North Dakota, United States. It is the county seat of Towner County. The population was 1,117 at the 2020 census. Cando was founded in 1884. History Cando was founded in 1884 as the seat of the newly formed Towner County. It was named from the pioneers' "can do" spirit. The Great Northern Railway was extended to Cando in 1888. Just west of Cando, Dunkers Colony was founded by settlers from Indiana in 1894. The settlement later changed its name to Zion, and all that is left today is a cemetery west of Cando. In 1980 the district was considering reverting to coal heating. This was due to an increase in the money it had to spend on energy bills. Cando is a Hamlet (place), hamlet in Rosemount No. 378, Saskatchewan, Rosemount Rural Municipality No. 378, Saskatchewan, Canada. The hamlet is located 48 km south of the City of North Battleford, Saskatchewan, North Battleford on Saskatchewan Highway 4, Highway 4. It is the headquarters of the Mosquito, Grizzly Bear's Head, Lean Man First Nations of the Assiniboine people. The community was served by Canadian National Railway's Porter Subdivision. The rail line was originally built by the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway from Oban, Saskatchewan, Oban to Battleford. The community is situated along the remains of the historic Swift Current-Battleford Trail.
