The 1912 state election in Queensland, Australia was held on 27 April 1912. The main parties in the election were the Liberal Party, led by Premier Digby Denham and the Labor Party, led by Leader of the Opposition David Bowman. The election was the first conducted under the ''Electoral Districts Act 1910'' which allowed for 72 single-member electorates based on the principle of one vote, one value. 1912 Queensland State Election
Elections were held in the Australian state of Queensland on 27 April 1912 to elect the 72 members of the state's Legislative Assembly. The election was the first for the recently formed Liberal government of Digby Denham, who had been premier since 7 February 1911. The opposition Labor Party was led by David Bowman, who had been Labor leader since 15 April 1907. Results Denham and his government were returned to office despite a swing to Labor of almost 10 percent. This was largely due to winning newly created seats in rural areas, while losing seats in Brisbane which mostly went to Labor. Alfred James Luke
Alfred James Luke (9 March 1871 – 11 September 1920) was a politician in Queensland, Australia. He was a Member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Political life Alfred Luke was a member of the Rosalie Shire Council and its chairman from 1907 to 1910. Alfred Luke represented the electoral district of Aubigny in the Queensland Legislative Assembly from 27 April 1912 to 22 May 1915. He was elected in the 1912 Queensland state election. He stood for re-election in the 1915 Queensland state election but was defeated by Arthur Edward Moore. Hugh McMinn
Hugh Cameron McMinn (1865 – 2 December 1941) was a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly in Australia. Biography McMinn was born in Callander, Perthshire, the son of James McMinn and his wife Agnes (née Cameron). He arrived in Australia when he was about 16 and worked as a storekeeper. After his time in parliament he was an inspector of playgrounds for the education department. On 11 May 1892 he married Margaret Jane Catherwood in Brisbane, and together they had a son and two daughters. McMinn died in December 1941 and was cremated at the Mt Thompson Crematorium. Electoral District Of Bulimba
Bulimba is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland. The electorate covers the inner eastern suburbs of Brisbane. It is bounded on the north and the west by the Brisbane River and, as at the 2009 election, covers the suburbs of Bulimba, Balmoral, Cannon Hill, Hawthorne, Morningside, Norman Park, Murarrie and Seven Hills. The boundaries have changed relatively little since 1923; prior to that, the boundaries extended as far east as Wynnum and as far south-east as Mount Gravatt and Cleveland. History Bulimba has existed continuously since the 1873 election, originally covering most of the outer south-east of Brisbane. Since the 1923 redistribution, Bulimba has strongly supported Labor. Edward Barrow Forrest (February 1838 – 30 March 1914) was an Australian company director and politician, a member of the Queensland Legislative Council and the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Early life Forrest was born in Windermere, Westmorland, England. He was brought to Sydney in 1852 where educated by his uncle Rev. William Forrest at The King's School, Parramatta, New South Wales. Business interests Forrest's first position was with the Colonial Sugar Refining Company, with which he remained connected throughout most of his life, being for many years their Queensland director. Electoral District Of Brisbane (Queensland)
Brisbane was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland from 1912 to 1977. Based in inner central Brisbane, north of the Brisbane River, it was first created as a single member constituency for the 1912 state election, largely replacing the dual member constituency of Brisbane North. It was abolished at the 1977 state election and replaced by the new district of Brisbane Central. It was historically a safe seat for the Labor Party. James Clarke Cribb (1856 - 1926) was a businessman and politician in Queensland, Australia . He was a Member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Early life James Clarke Cribb was born 4 October 1856 at Ipswich, the son of Benjamin Cribb (a Member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly) and his second wife, Clarissa Foote (the sister of John Clarke Foote). His middle name ''Clarke'' was the maiden name of his maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Clarke. Business interests He followed into the family business of Cribb & Foote, a major retailer in Ipswich. Bremer was a Legislative Assembly electorate in the state of Queensland. History Bremer was established as a single-member electorate by the ''Electoral Districts Act of 1872''. Myles Ferricks
Myles Aloysius Ferricks (12 November 1875 – 21 August 1932) was an Australian politician. Born in Maryborough, Queensland, he was educated there at Christian Brothers School before becoming a bush worker, teacher and journalist, and editor of the ''Bowen Independent''. In 1909, he was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Queensland as the Labor member for Bowen, serving until 1912. In 1913 he was elected to the Australian Senate as a Labor Senator for Queensland. He remained in the Senate until his defeat in 1919, taking effect in 1920. In 1920, he returned to the Queensland Legislative Assembly as the member for South Brisbane, serving until 1929. Ferricks died in 1932. Electoral District Of Bowen
Bowen was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland from 1873 to 1950 and at various times until 1992. History The electoral district of Bowen was established by the 1872 Electoral Districts Act. During the First McIlwraith Ministry, the seat of Bowen was occupied by three Attorneys-General: Henry Beor, Pope Alexander Cooper and Charles E. Chubb. Upon Beor's death, Cooper, who was not at that time in Parliament, was appointed Attorney-General and contested and won the resulting by-election. When he resigned, Chubb entered parliament in the same manner. Bowen is the only state or federal electorate in Australia to elect a Communist member, Fred Paterson, who served as member for Bowen from the 1944 election until the 1950 election.
