Tom Mitchell (Australian Politician)
Thomas Walter Mitchell (11 November 1906 – 4 February 1984) was an Australian politician, author and sportsman. Mitchell was born at the family property "Towong Hill", near Corryong, Victoria and was educated at Cambridge University from 1925 to 1930 before returning to Australia, and Towong Hill. At the time the property consisted of of prime land beside the Murray River, but today has been reduced to , as sections have been split to various family members. A keen skier, Mitchell founded the Australian National Ski Federation in 1932, captained the Australian skiing team and won gold medals in competitions against England and New Zealand. He was an Australian champion in the downhill and long-time member of the Australian Ski Club. The electoral district of Brunswick is an electorate of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. It covers an area of in inner northern Melbourne, and includes the suburbs of Brunswick, Brunswick East, Carlton North, Fitzroy North, Princes Hill and parts of Brunswick West. It lies within the Northern Metropolitan Region of the upper house, the Legislative Council. Historically a very safe seat for the Labor Party, Brunswick has in recent elections seen an increase in support for the Greens, who won the seat at the 2018 election. Ray Tovell
Brigadier Raymond Walter Tovell & Bar, ED (9 March 1890 – 18 June 1966) was an Australian soldier and politician. He was born in Brighton to solicitor Charles Edward Tovell and Mary Annie Mitchell. He attended Brighton Grammar School and qualified as an accountant in 1911. During the First World War, he served with the 4th Brigade, attaining the rank of major and being awarded the Distinguished Service Order (DSO). After his return, he was a member of the Tovell and Lucas accountancy firm, but remained in the military, as commanding officer of the 14th Battalion from 1924 to 1930, and the 46th Battalion from 1932 to 1938. George Reid (Victorian Politician)
Sir George Oswald Reid (22 July 1903 – 18 February 1993) was an Australian politician. He was born in Hawthorn to railway officer George Watson Reid and Lillias Margaret Easton. He attended Camberwell Grammar School and Scotch College, and studied law at Melbourne University and in 1926 was admitted as a barrister and solicitor, practising at the bar until 1927 and as a solicitor thereafter. In 1947 he was elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly as the Liberal member for Box Hill. He was party whip from 1950 to 1952, when he was defeated. Returned in 1955, he became cabinet secretary and minister without portfolio. Bob Gray (Australian Politician)
Robert John Gray (8 March 1898 – 2 August 1978) was an Australian politician. He was born in Brunswick to farmer Matthew Gray and Susan Jane Saggers. He served in World War I with the AIF, and after the war studied commerce in London. In 1920 he married Emily Myrtle Ireland, with whom he had four children. He worked for Nunawading Shire Council and Box Hill City Council as a health inspector. In 1943 he was elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly in a by-election for the seat of Nunawading, representing the Labor Party. He transferred to Box Hill in 1945, but was defeated in 1947. He returned to the Assembly in 1952 and was briefly a minister without portfolio in 1955, in which year he was defeated for a second time. Gray had been widowed and married Mary Byrne in 1952. The electoral district of Box Hill is an electoral district of the Victorian Legislative Assembly, covering an area of in eastern Melbourne. Johan Wilfred John "Mick" Mibus, known as Wilfred Mibus or Mick Mibus (14 September 1900 – 18 April 1964) was an Australian politician. He was a Country Party representative of the electoral district of Lowan (called Borung from 1945 to 1955) from 1944 until his death in 1964. Early life Wilfred Mibus was born in 1900 in the small settlement of Katyil, near Dimboola, Victoria, to pioneer farmer Carl August Mibus and his wife Mathilda Nuske.
