Candi CdeBaca
Candi Lee CdeBaca (born April 10, 1986) is the Councilor for the 9th district of the Denver City Council. She is a member of the Democratic Party and the Democratic Socialists of America. Life and career CdeBaca was born in Swansea, in a neighborhood of Denver between rail lines and the Interstate 70. As a teenager, she came home one day to find her mother stuck in the street, unable to maneuver her wheelchair over a ramp-less curb. This experience led her to become an activist. In 2006, she co-founded Project VOYCE (Voices of Youth Changing Education), in response to the closure of her school, and helped to organize a class-action lawsuit against Denver Public Schools. CdeBaca was valedictorian and class president at Manual High School, and a first-generation high school graduate. Denver City Council
The Denver City Council is the legislative branch of government for the City and County of Denver, Colorado. The council is made up of thirteen elected officials from eleven City and county designated districts and two at-large elected members. Although the offices are officially non-partisan, the members are allowed to be affiliated with a political party. Most commonly in Denver history, members are almost always members of the Democratic Party. Elections for all members are held every four years, the next being in 2023. ''The Colorado Independent'' was a nonprofit, independent media organization, first reporting news via its online website that was started in July 2006, later "born again" in September 2013 under new, Colorado-based management. History ''The Colorado Independent,'' first called ''Colorado Confidential,'' was founded as part of a network of local state-based websites that covered regional news, focusing on local government and politics. Anarchism in the United States began in the mid-19th century and started to grow in influence as it entered the American labor movements, growing an anarcho-communist current as well as gaining notoriety for violent propaganda of the deed and campaigning for diverse social reforms in the early 20th century.
