The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television is a Canadian non-profit organization created in 1979 to recognize the achievements of the over 4,000 Canadian cinema of Canada, film industry and television in Canada, television industry professionals, most notably through the Canadian Screen Awards. The mandate of the Academy is to honour outstanding achievements; to heighten public awareness of and increase audience attendance of and appreciation of Canadian film and television productions; and to provide critically needed, high-quality professional development programs, conferences and publications. ''Degrassi Junior High'' is a Canadian teen drama television series created by Linda Schuyler and Kit Hood. It is the second entry of the '' Degrassi'' television franchise after ''The Kids of Degrassi Street'' and aired on the CBC from 18 January 1987 to 27 February 1989, and on PBS in the United States starting from September 1987. The series follows those who attend the titular fictional school and the issues they face. Produced by Schuyler and Hood's Playing With Time, development of the series began soon after the end of ''The Kids of Degrassi Street'', in response to a perceived lack of teenage representation in media. Kevin Roderick Sullivan (born c. 1955) is a Canadian writer, director and producer of film and television programs. ''Road to Avonlea'' is a Canadian television series first broadcast in Canada between January 7, 1990, and March 31, 1996, as part of the '' CBC Family Hour'' anthology series, and in the United States starting on March 5, 1990. It was created by Kevin Sullivan and produced by Sullivan Films (later Sullivan Entertainment) in association with the CBC and the Disney Channel, with additional funding from Telefilm Canada. It follows the adventures of Sara Stanley, a young girl sent to live with her relatives in early 20th-century eastern Canada. Robert Lantos
Robert Lantos (born 3 April 1949) is a Hungarian-Canadian film producer. Life and career Lantos was born on 3 April 1949 in Budapest, the son of Ágnes (Bodor) and László Lantos, a mechanic and truck company owner. Lantos spent much of his childhood in Montevideo, Uruguay, where his family fled after the Hungarian Revolution of 1956. He immigrated to Canada in 1963. Lantos is Jewish. Lantos studied literature at McGill University in Montreal and graduated with a BA (1970) and an MA (1972). Following graduation from McGill, he founded Vivafilm which imported and distributed foreign films across Canada.
