Canadian Lacrosse League (2011)
Founded by Paul St. John in 2011, the Canadian Lacrosse League (CLax) was a men's semi-professional indoor lacrosse league based exclusively in Ontario, Canada. CLax ceased operation on August 31, 2016 after the league's single-entity ownership group, Charlesway Corporation Limited and Rodney 'Demon' Hill, deemed the league's business model to be no longer viable. Similar to the National Lacrosse League, and unlike other Canadian box lacrosse leagues that play in the summer, CLax played its regular season games in the winter with its playoff games and championship culminating in the early spring. CLax opened its inaugural season with six teams in three cities: Brampton Inferno and Peel Avengers in Brampton, Ontario; the Iroquois Ironmen and Ohsweken Demons in Hagersville, Ontario; and the Durham TurfDogs and Oshawa Machine in Oshawa, Ontario. Box Lacrosse
Box lacrosse, also known as boxla, box, or indoor lacrosse, is an indoor version of lacrosse played mostly in North America. The game originated in the 1930s in Canada, where it is more popular than field lacrosse. Lacrosse is Canada's official national summer sport. Box lacrosse is played between two teams of five players and one goalie each, and is traditionally played on an ice hockey rink once the ice has been removed or covered. The playing area is called a box, in contrast to the open playing field of field lacrosse. The object of the game is to use a lacrosse stick to catch, carry, and pass the ball in an effort to score by shooting a solid rubber lacrosse ball into the opponent's goal. Iroquois Lacrosse Arena
The Iroquois Lacrosse Arena is a box lacrosse arena on the outskirts of Hagersville, Ontario, Canada on the Six Nations of the Grand River Reserve. The arena opened in 2004 and does not host hockey games as there is no refrigeration system for ice. The arena is the home of the six-time Mann Cup winners the Six Nations Chiefs, the five-time Minto Cup winners the Six Nations Arrows, and the seven-time Founders Cup winners the Six Nations Rebels. GM Centre
The Tribute Communities Centre, formerly known as the General Motors Centre or GM Centre, GMC for short, is a multi-purpose arena located in downtown Oshawa, Ontario, Canada, which opened in November 2006. The arena was constructed to replace the Oshawa Civic Auditorium. The CAA Centre (formerly the Brampton Centre for Sports & Entertainment and the Powerade Centre) is a 5,000-seat multi-purpose arena in Brampton, Ontario, Canada. It was built in 1998, and officially opened the same year on October 7. In 2023, the arena became home to the Brampton Honey Badgers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League. Sadlon Arena (formerly known as the Barrie Molson Centre) is a 4,195-seat multi-purpose arena in Barrie, Ontario, Canada. It is primarily home to the Barrie Colts of the Ontario Hockey League. SouthWest Cyclops were a Canadian professional indoor lacrosse team that played in the Canadian Lacrosse League. The team, originally named the Brampton Inferno, played their 2015 season in Paris, Ontario. History The team ownership was confirmed on June 19, 2011 and the team was scheduled to start play in 2012. Toronto Shooting Stars were a Canadian professional indoor lacrosse team that played in the Canadian Lacrosse League. The Shooting Stars played out of the Mattamy Athletic Centre in Toronto, Ontario. History The team was founded as the Oshawa Machine in the summer of 2011. The Machine played their first game in franchise history on January 7, 2012, in Hagersville, Ontario. The Machine lost the game to the Ohsweken Demons 19–13. The Machine finished the 2012 campaign with a record of 6-8 which was good for fifth position in the six-team league. Toronto Shooting Stars were an indoor soccer team based in Toronto, Ontario that competed in the defunct NPSL. The team began play in the 1996–1997 season, with home games taking place at Maple Leaf Gardens.
