Canadian Figure Skating Hall Of Fame
The Skate Canada Hall of Fame is the sports hall of fame for figure skating maintained by Skate Canada. It was established in 1990 as the Canadian Figure Skating Hall of Fame. Hall Of Fame
A hall, wall, or walk of fame is a list of individuals, achievements, or other entities, usually chosen by a group of electors, to mark their excellence or fame in their field. Donald Jackson (figure Skater)
Donald George Jackson, (born April 2, 1940) is a Canadian retired figure skater. He is the 1962 World Champion, four-time Canadian national champion, and 1960 Olympic bronze medallist. At the 1962 World Figure Skating Championships in Prague, Czechoslovakia, he landed the first triple Lutz jump in international competition and won the world title. Biography Jackson was coached by Pierre Brunet in New York City, where he lived with the family of 1960 Olympic Champion Carol Heiss. He won a bronze medal at the 1960 Winter Olympics at the age of 19. In both 1959 and 1960, he won a silver medal at the World Championships. The 1961 event was cancelled after the tragic plane crash that claimed the lives of many of Jackson's contemporaries in the US figure skating team. Ralph McCreath
Ralph Scott McCreath (April 27, 1919 – May 2, 1997) was a Canadian figure skater who competed in single skating, pair skating, ice dancing, and fours. He competed in pairs with Veronica Clarke, Norah McCarthy, Eleanor O'Meara, Bunty Lang, and Betty Chambers, and in fours with fours with Dorothy Caley, Hazel Caley, and Montgomery Wilson, winning the 1939 North American title. McCreath started skating for the Toronto Skating Club in 1933. He was the 1940, 1941, and 1946 Canadian national champion and 1941 North American in single skating. In pairs, he won six national and two North American titles with three different partners. As an ice dancer, he competed with Veronica Clarke. Otto Jelinek
Otto John Jelinek (Czech: Otakar Jelínek; born May 20, 1940) is a businessman, former figure skater, and Canadian politician. Jelinek's family fled to Switzerland, then to Canada from Czechoslovakia in 1948, following the Communist coup d'état when communists nationalized his father's cork and aluminium caps factory. Maria Jelinek (birth name Maria Jelínková; born November 16, 1942) is a Canadian former pair skater. With her brother Otto, she is the 1962 World champion, the 1961 North American champion, and 1961–1962 Canadian national champion. They represented Canada at the 1960 Winter Olympics, where they placed 4th. Personal life The Jelinek family fled to Canada from Czechoslovakia in 1948 at the beginning of the Cold War. Charles Cumming (born 1971) is a British writer of spy fiction. Early life and education Cumming was born in 1971, in Ayr, Scotland, the son of Ian Cumming (b. 1938) and Caroline Pilkington (b. 1943). Norris Bowden
Robert Norris Bowden (August 13, 1926 – April 9, 1991) was a Canadian figure skater. Born in Toronto, Ontario, Bowden won championships in every division of Canadian figure skating. He was national men's champion as a junior and senior (1947), national pairs (junior and senior), dance (1952), waltz, and 10-step champion with Frances Dafoe, and national fours champion. Bowden and Dafoe captured four Canadian titles (1952, 1953, 1954, 1955) and two world championships (1954, 1955).
