Guardiaregia
Guardiaregia is a small mountain town in the Province of Campobasso, Molise, southern Italy. Their patron saint is San Nicola di Bari, otherwise known as St. Nicholas. History In ancient times it was a strongpoint of the Samnites, and was conquered by the Romans during the Samnite Wars (2nd century BC). Later it received the rights of a ''municipium''. The current settlement dates from the medieval Lombard Duchy of Benevento, when a castle was built here to protect Campochiaro. In 1805 the town was hit with a sizable earthquake that destroyed (literally swallowed) the castle there in a chasm that opened as the ridge split from the mountain to which it was once attached. That event was the principal cause of emigration from the city and today, "Piazza Toronto" (Toronto Plaza) stands in commemoration of those who sent aid and support to those who rebuilt the town. Piedimonte Matese () is a (municipality) in the Province of Caserta in the Italian region of Campania, located about 82 km north of Naples and about 40 km north of Caserta. Geography Piedimonte Matese borders the following municipalities: Alife, Campochiaro, Castello del Matese, Cusano Mutri, Guardiaregia, San Gregorio Matese, San Potito Sannitico and Sant'Angelo d'Alife. Vinchiaturo is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Province of Campobasso in the Italy, Italian region Molise, located about southwest of Campobasso with a population of 3368 people (31-12-2022). History The name of the town derives from the Latin ''vincula catenis'', meaning "prison with chains". The town was already existing during the year 1000 "anno mille" and was depending on the monastery of Santa Maria di Monteverde. In 1349 the city was devastated by an earthquake, which resulted in its displacement from Monteverde further downstream. A subsequent earthquake in 1805 destroyed the town, which was rebuilt in the Stile Umbertino, Umbertine style, particularly the Classical music, neoclassical church of Santa Croce. During the era of Fascist Italy, Vinchiaturo was the site of a small fascist internment camp administered and operated by the province of Campobasso.
