Campbell (electoral District)
Campbell was a territorial electoral district in the Canadian territory of Yukon, which was represented in the Legislative Assembly of Yukon from 1978 to 1992. The district was first created for the 1978 Yukon general election, from parts of Hootalinqua, Pelly River and Watson Lake."Yukon Election '78: The Biggest Race Yet". Samuel Timothy Johnston (born November 20, 1935) is a former Canadian politician in the territory of Yukon, Canada. He served as chief of the Teslin Tlingit Council from 1970 to 1984, and represented Campbell (electoral district), Campbell in the Yukon Legislative Assembly from 1985 to 1992 as a Yukon New Democratic Party, NDP member. He was born in Teslin, Yukon, the son of David Peter Johnston and Rose Morris, and was educated in Carcross, Yukon, Carcross. In 1983, he married Kelly Ruth Hyatt. Johnston served as List of Speakers of the Yukon Legislative Assembly, Speaker for the assembly from 1985 to 1992. He was the first native Canadian to serve as a legislative speaker in Canada. An independent politician or non-affiliated politician is a politician not affiliated with any political party or bureaucratic association. There are numerous reasons why someone may stand for office as an independent. Some politicians have political views that do not align with the platforms of any political party and therefore they choose not to affiliate with them. Yukon New Democratic Party
The Yukon New Democratic Party (YNDP; ) is a social democratic political party in the Yukon, Canada. It is the territorial section of the federal New Democratic Party. The Yukon NDP first formed the government of the territory under the leadership of Tony Penikett from 1985 to 1992, and under the leadership of Piers McDonald from 1996 to 2000. The party's current leader is Kate White. The NDP sat as official opposition to the current Yukon Party government in the Yukon Legislative Assembly until May 2006.
