Camp Malir
The Malir Cantonment () is a cantonment town of the city of Karachi, in Sindh, Pakistan. It serves as a military base and residential establishment. History Declared a cantonment by the Royal British Government as POW Camp by Muhammad Irfan Malik and Ismail Sherwani on 11 October 1941, in the exigencies of World War II, this cantonment was taken over by the Pakistan Army in 1947. This cantonment serves as the main cantonment of Southern areas of Sindh province. It houses civil residences like the ''Cantonment Bazar Area'', DOHS l & 2, Askari-5 and Falcon Complex, Army Cantonment is stretched over an area of 12 square kilometers. Cantonments in Pakistan () are permanent military bases of the Pakistan Army, which are administered by Cantonment Boards under the control of the Military Lands & Cantonments Department (ML&C), Ministry of Defence, Government of Pakistan. Cantonments are established under and governed by the Cantonments Act 1924. In recent times, the demographic character of most Partition of India, independence-era cantonments has changed, as they are no longer primarily "garrison" areas, and include significant civilian populations and private businesses. Based on the strength of civil population, the cantonments have been divided into three classes. City District Government Karachi
The City District Government Karachi (CDGK) was a local government of Karachi, Pakistan. It was established through a local government ordinance (LGO) in 2000 to empower the local government by decentralizing district government. Karachi became a federation of eighteen autonomous boroughs, called "Towns," that made up the City District Government Karachi from 2001 until 2011. Under this now-defunct system, Karachi had a local government system, with a mayor empowered to make decisions in regards to city-planning and administration of local services. It was headed by the mayor and was formed under the presidential rule of Pervez Musharraf in 2001. CDGK existed until 2010. Malir District () is an administrative district of Karachi Division in Sindh, Pakistan created in 1996 by bifurcation of Gulshan District, District Karachi East. Malir Town () is the Constituent Town of Karachi Malir District and lies in the northern part of the city that was named after the Malir River. Malir River
Malir River () is a seasonal river that flows in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. It passes through the city of Karachi from the northeast, through the center, and drains into the Arabian Sea. It is one of the two rivers passing through Karachi, the other being the Lyari River. It has two main tributaries, the Thadho and the Sukhan. In the rainy season, the Malir river experiences heavy waterflow, with millions of gallons emptying into the Arabian Sea. The Malir Dam is a barrage regulating flow and flooding of the river, preserving a reservoir during seasonal droughts. The 39km Malir Expressway is under-construction along the banks of the Malir River, connecting newer areas of development ( Bahria Town) on the outskirts of the city to posh areas ( DHA) in Karachi. Gulshan Town () is a Karachi borough in the northeastern part of Karachi. Gulshan Town was formed in 2001 as part of the Local Government Ordinance 2001, and was subdivided into 11 union councils. PAF Base Malir
PAF (Pakistan Air Force) Base Malir is a non-flying Pakistan Air Force Base. The Malir base was originally built by British during the World War II as the last line of defense against the Wehrmacht. After the war, it was used as the processing area for the returning American soldiers. After being abandoned, Malir was again brought to use to train the technicians working in the domain of radio and radar for Pakistan Air Force and was upgraded to a station status in 1949. In current times, the base plays the role of maintaining the Air Defence & lodger units prepared for any wartime situations. Malir base was reported to efficiently provide support during Indo-Pakistani War of 1965 and Indo-Pakistani War of 1971 wars with India.
