Cambridge United is a Canadian semi-professional soccer club based in Cambridge, Ontario that competes in the men's and women's division of League2 Ontario. History The club was founded in 1973, when the city of Cambridge was amalgamated. The club is officially named Cambridge Youth Soccer, with the competitive teams operating under the name Cambridge United. In 2018, the club was granted a license to have youth teams participate in the OPDL. In 2022, a new seven-field complex began construction for the club, which was completed in 2024, which will be shared with Conestoga College. (It was originally to be a 12 field facility when announced in 2018) For 2025, they officially added a semi-professional team in the League1 Ontario pyramid, in both the men's and women's divisions, after having participated in the Reserve Divisions for a few years, joining the third tier League2 Ontario. The league began play in 2014 and is sanctioned by the Canadian Soccer Association and the Ontario Soccer Association as a pro-am league in the Canadian soccer league system. As of the 2022 season, L1O includes 22 teams. Beginning in 2024, the league will become a three-tier league featuring promotion and relegation. In the Canadian soccer league system, the men's division is behind the Canadian Premier League (CPL). It is part of League1 Canada, the national third tier with regional division, with L1O equaivalent to the Première ligue de soccer du Québec (PLSQ) and League1 British Columbia (L1BC). 2025 League1 Ontario Season
The 2025 Men's League1 Ontario season is the eleventh of League1 Ontario, a Division 3 men's soccer league in the Canadian soccer pyramid and the highest level of soccer based in the Canadian province of Ontario. The league is split into three divisions with promotion and relegation between them. The Premier division will be composed of 11 clubs, the Championship division of 12 clubs, all returning from last season. The League2 Ontario will be made up by three conferences containing reserve teams and newly licensed clubs. League1 Ontario Premier League1 Ontario Premier will be composed of 11 teams. FC London and St. Catharines Roma Wolves were promoted from the Championship division last season. The ''Cambridge Times'' is a local newspaper in Southern Ontario, Canada, serving the community of Cambridge. It replaced the '' Cambridge Reporter'' as the local paper in 2003, when the latter was closed by its publisher. BVB International Academy Waterloo is a Canadian semi-professional soccer club based in Waterloo, Ontario that plays in the League1 Ontario men's and women's divisions. Their home stadium is Warrior Field at the University of Waterloo.
