Cambridge Papers
The Jubilee Centre is a Christian organization based in the United Kingdom. It was founded in 1983 by Michael Schluter. It is the publisher of the ''Jubilee Manifesto'' and has a quarterly publication, the ''Cambridge Papers.'' It was behind the launch of the now independent Keep Sunday Special campaign in 1985, which contributed to Margaret Thatcher's first defeat in the Commons. It launched the informal Fair Sex Movement against sex education in the UK. It has inspired similar similar organisations internationally in Singapore, Kenya, and the US. Michael Schluter (economist)
Dr. Michael Gerald Galton Schluter CBE (born 1947) is a British social thinker and social entrepreneur who founded Britain's Relationships Foundation. After gaining his Ph.D. from Cornell University, Schluter worked as an applied economist with the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) and the World Bank. Along with colleagues in the field, he has founded a variety of international NGOs focused on public policy, food security, and peace-building initiatives. Schluter is currently president and CEO of Relational Peacebuilding Initiatives. In recognition of his public service, he was appointed CBE by the Queen in the New Year Honours List 2009. Keep Sunday Special
Keep Sunday Special is a British campaign group set up in 1985 by Michael Schluter to oppose plans to introduce Sunday trading in England and Wales (there are different arrangements in Scotland and Northern Ireland). The Keep Sunday Special campaign was set up and is run as a conventional secular civil society organisation with support from trade unions, churches, political parties, private businesses, and members of all faiths and of none. It has no connection to the Lord's Day Observance Society. History From 1912 to 1938, a series of acts regarding trading were passed into UK law, including that which regulated shops on Sundays, which were later consolidated in the Shops Act 1950. This act was then repealed by the Deregulation and Contracting Out Act 1994, bringing an end to the prohibition of Sunday trade in England and Wales.
