Caloboletus Roseipes
''Caloboletus'' is a fungal genus in the family Boletaceae. It was circumscribed by Italian mycologist Alfredo Vizzini with ''Caloboletus calopus'' as the type species. The erection of ''Caloboletus'' follows recent molecular studies that outlined a new phylogenetic framework for the Boletaceae. ''Boletus peckii'' was also transferred to this genus by Vizzini, but was subsequently moved to the genus ''Butyriboletus'' based on molecular evidence. The generic name ''Caloboletus'', derived from the Greek ''calos'' "nice", refers to the attractive red coloring of the stipe. Species *''Caloboletus calopus'' (Pers.) Caloboletus Rubripes
''Caloboletus rubripes'', commonly known as the red-stipe bolete or the red-stemmed bitter bolete, is a mushroom in the family Boletaceae. It was known as ''Boletus rubripes'' until 2014. Basidiocarp, Fruit bodies (mushrooms) are robust, with pileus (mycology), caps up to in diameter, atop thick stipe (mycology), stipes long. Mushrooms are non-toxic, but is so bitter as to be inedible. The mushroom trama (mycology), flesh has a very strong bluing reaction when cut or damaged. and forms mycorrhizal relationships, primarily with conifers. It can be differentiated from similar boletes by its cap color and non-reticulate stipe (mycology), stipe. Taxonomy The species was first species description, described scientifically by American mycologist Harry D. Thiers in 1965, based on collections he made in Jackson Demonstration State Forest, Jackson State Forest, Mendocino County, California, in late October, 1962. Caloboletus Radicans
''Caloboletus radicans'', also known as the rooting bolete or whitish bolete, is a large ectomycorrhizal fungus found in Europe under broad-leaved trees, fruiting during the summer and autumn months. It has a pale buff or greyish-white cap, yellow pores and a stout stipe, and stains intensely blue when handled or cut. Bitter and inedible, it can cause severe vomiting and diarrhoea if eaten. Until 2014 it was placed in genus '' Boletus'', but has since been transferred to the new genus ''Caloboletus'' based on molecular phylogenetic data. Taxonomy The fungus was first described by the pioneering South African-born mycologist Christian Hendrik Persoon in 1801, who placed it in genus '' Boletus''. Its specific epithet is derived from the Latin ''radic-'' 'root', referring to its rooting stipe. The name ''Boletus albidus'' is a later synonym. In 2014, the bolete was transferred to the new genus ''Caloboletus'' by Italian mycologist Alfredo Vizzini, based on phylogenetic data. It ... Caloboletus Marshii
''Caloboletus marshii'', commonly known as Ben's bitter bolete, is a species of mushroom in the family Boletaceae. It is not poisonous, but it is too bitter to eat. It turns blue when cut or bruised, and it grows under live oak. Taxonomy ''Caloboletus marshii'' was first unofficially described by David Arora as ''Boletus "marshii"'' in his book Mushrooms Demystified, which was first published in 1979 and later revised in 1986. In 2014, Jonathan L. Frank formally described the species as ''Caloboletus marshii''. Description The cap of ''Caloboletus marshii'' is about 2-6 inches (6-15 cm) across, and the stipe is about 1-4 inches (3-10 cm) long and 0.7-4 inches (3-10 cm) wide. The pore surface and the flesh are yellow, and quickly turn blue when bruised or cut. Similar species ''Caloboletus marshii'' can be confused with the brown butter bolete, '' Butryiboletus persolidus.'' It can also be confused with the white king bolete, '' Boletus barrowsii'', which doesn't bruise b ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Caloboletus Kluzakii
''Caloboletus kluzakii'' is a bolete fungus native to Europe. Until 2014, it was known as ''Boletus kluzakii''. Recent changes in the phylogenetic framework of the family Boletaceae prompted the transfer of this species, along with several other related boletes, including ''Caloboletus calopus'', to the genus ''Caloboletus''. It was described scientifically in 2006 by Josef Šutara and Pavel Špinar, from specimens collected in the Czech Republic. The fungus had earlier been published with the name ''Boletus fallax'' by Czech mycologist Zdeněk Kluzák in 1988, but this was invalid, as that name had been used previously by E.J.H. Corner for a Malaysian bolete (later transferred to the genus ''Boletellus'' as '' Boletellus fallax'').
