Callback (comedy)
In comedy, a callback is a joke that refers to one previously told in the set. It is also known as an internal allusion, a literary device that helps give structure to the piece of writing. Callbacks are a subset of inside jokes which refer to something told in the set rather than to anything in general. Television In television, the term callback has come to mean a joke or line that refers to a previous episode (or sometimes, in rare cases, movies). Particularly in earlier sitcoms—though even until the early 1990s—callbacks were rare and often frowned upon by networks, because they threaten to alienate a viewer who is new to the series, or who has missed episodes, particularly if the callback is tied to previous episodes (this is especially a threat to a show's syndication value, as shows in which the episodes are self-contained, and thus can be rerun out of order, can fetch a higher sale price than shows that must be run in sequence). ''Seinfeld'', a show built around st ...

Callback (computer Programming)
In computer programming, a callback is a function that is stored as data (a reference) and designed to be called by another function often ''back'' to the original abstraction layer. A function that accepts a callback parameter may be designed to call back before returning to its caller which is known as '' synchronous'' or ''blocking''. The function that accepts a callback may be designed to store the callback so that it can be called back after returning which is known as ''asynchronous'', '' non-blocking'' or ''deferred''. Programming languages support callbacks in different ways such as function pointers, lambda expressions and blocks. A callback can be likened to leaving instructions with a tailor for what to do when a suit is ready, such as calling a specific phone number or delivering it to a given address. These instructions represent a callback: a function provided in advance to be executed later, often by a different part of the system and not necessarily by t ...

Callback (telecommunications)
In telecommunications, a callback or call-back occurs when the originator of a call is immediately called back in a second call as a response. International calling A callback, in this sense is a method of making low-cost international calls via a third country, usually the United States, where call charges are considerably lower. One variation of this technology was developed by IDT Corporation in 1991. IDT Corp used a hardware solution that was never widely accepted and ultimately failed and was surpassed by a software solution concurrently developed by Jorge Blanco at MCI Telecommunications for The United Nations Development Programme and their staff Wolfgang Scholtes and Kumar Navaratnum. In order to use a callback service, a subscriber is allocated a unique number in, for example, the US, which must first be dialled in order to trigger a return call. This is known (in the US) as a Direct Inbound Dialing (DID) number, or in the UK as a Direct Dial-In (DDI) number. Where Calle ...

Callback Verification
Callback verification, also known as callout verification or Sender Address Verification, is a technique used by SMTP software in order to validate e-mail addresses. The most common target of verification is the sender address from the message envelope (the address specified during the SMTP dialogue as " MAIL FROM"). It is mostly used as an anti-spam measure. Purpose Since a large percentage of e-mail spam is generated from forged sender ("mfrom") addresses, some spam can be detected by checking whether forging resulted in an invalid address, using this method. A related technique is "call forwards", in which a secondary or firewall mail exchanger can verify recipients at the primary mail exchanger for the domain in order to decide whether the address is deliverable. Process The receiving mail server verifies the sender address, by verifying both parts of the sender address - the domain name (part after the @ character), and the local part (part before the @ character). The f ...

Web Callback
Web callback is a technology where a person can enter his or her telephone number in a form on a web site. The company who owns that Web site will then receive the Web callback request and a call center agent will call the person who made the request back on the number they entered. In some implementations, the Web callback service provider will place outgoing calls to the owner of the web site, and the user, then connect the calls together. An alternative approach is for the web site owner to receive a SMS text message, so they can initiate the call to the web site user. Some Web callback service providers allow the callback form to be embedded into the web site, sometimes matching the look and feel of the existing site. Others simply add a hyperlink to the site, which is linked to the service providers own site. Web Callback vs Click To Call Different than a simple computer Click To Call ( CTC), Web Callbacks are not calls generated from the users computer, but will call a ...

The Callback
"The Callback" is the second episode of the American television series '' Smash''. The episode aired on February 13, 2012. It was written by series creator Theresa Rebeck and directed by Michael Mayer, who also directed the pilot. Plot As Ivy Lynn (Megan Hilty) and Karen Cartwright (Katharine McPhee) both attempt to please Derek Wills (Jack Davenport) in order to win the role of Marilyn, Julia Houston (Debra Messing) and her husband Frank (Brian d'Arcy James) become frustrated by the process of their international adoption and Eileen's (Anjelica Huston) acrimonious divorce complicates her attempt to finance the musical. We are shown that Karen in callbacks is very slow to pick up the dance routines, and has problems with acting (Derek tells her she isn't giving him "anything," Marilyn or otherwise). In the end, Ivy wins the role of Marilyn after impressing Derek with her eloquent and vulnerable scenework in callbacks. Derek is moved by Ivy's work to make an advance, and the two ...

The album contains ten songs, including the lead single, "Call Back". Composition The album opens with lead single "Call Back", a pop song about confessing one's feelings that incorporates heavy bass, lyrical piano and upbeat guitar riffs. It is followed by "Slow Down", an R&B pop song with trap elements layered over "dreamy" synths. The lyrics express Minho's wish for time to pass slowly when he is with his partner. "Fireworks" features Sohee of Riize, and is a hip hop dance song with a rhythmic bassline. It conveys a positive message about lighting a fire under one's self despite the exhaustion of daily life. "Came and Left Me" is a dance-pop song that opens with a restrained guitar riff and transitions to a more rapid rhythm. The lyrics are about coming to terms with a break-up. "Something About U" contains heavy kick and bass. It de ...

Audition
An audition is a sample performance by an actor, singer, musician, dancer or other performer. It typically involves the performer displaying their talent through a previously memorized and rehearsed solo piece or by performing a work or piece given to the performer at the audition or shortly before. In some cases, such as with a model or acrobat, the individual may be asked to demonstrate a range of professional skills. Actors may be asked to present a monologue. Singers will perform a song in a popular music context or an aria in a Classical context. A dancer will present a routine in a specific style, such as ballet, tap dance or hip-hop, or show his or her ability to quickly learn a choreographed dance piece. The audition is a systematic process in which industry professionals select performers, which is in some ways analogous to a job interview in the regular job market. In an audition, the employer is testing the ability of the applicant to meet the needs of the job and ass ...
