Aela Callan is a documentary filmmaker and journalist based in Berlin, Germany. Callan began her career in Perth at 6PR radio in 1999, before working in the Canberra press gallery, Sydney's 2UE radio. and Seven News in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Nicholas Callan
Nicholas Joseph Callan (22 December 1799 – 10 January 1864) was an Irish physicist and Catholic priest known for his work on the induction coil. Early life and education He was born and raised in Dundalk, County Louth, where he attended school at an academy. His local parish priest, Father Andrew Levins, then took him in hand as an altar boy and Mass server, and saw him start the priesthood at Navan seminary. He entered Maynooth College in 1816. In his third year at Maynooth, Callan studied natural and experimental philosophy under Cornelius Denvir. He introduced the experimental method into his teaching and had an interest in electricity and magnetism. Callan was ordained a priest in 1823 and went to Rome to study at Sapienza University, obtaining a doctorate in divinity in 1826. Callan Beasy (born 19 March 1982) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Carlton. Beasy was drafted with the 61st selection in the 2000 AFL Draft, but did not make his AFL debut until late in 2002 when Carlton suffered from a high number of injuries. George Agar, 1st Baron Callan
George Agar, 1st Baron Callan PC (4 December 1751 – 29 October 1815) was an Anglo-Irish politician and peer. Agar was the third son of James Agar, of County Kilkenny, by the Honourable Rebecca Flower, daughter of William Flower, 1st Baron Castle Durrow and Edith Caulfeild. Ellis Bermingham, Countess of Brandon, was his aunt. His father was killed in a duel with Henry Flood in 1769, the culmination of a long and bitter political feud. He was educated at Eton and Trinity Hall, Cambridge. Agar was returned to the Irish House of Commons for Callan in 1776, a seat he held until 1790, and was admitted to the Irish Privy Council in 1789. In 1790 he was elevated to the Peerage of Ireland as Baron Callan, of Callan in the County of Kilkenny. In 1801 he was elected as one of the original 28 Irish representative peer to sit in the House of Lords. Lord Callan never married and the title became extinct on his death in October 1815, aged 63. Major General Robert Emmet Callan (March 24, 1874 – November 20, 1936) was a distinguished United States Army Coast Artillery officer who served in the United States and overseas in places such as Puerto Rico, France and the Philippines. He saw frontline action in the Spanish–American War and World War I. Early career Callan was born on March 24, 1874, in Baltimore, Maryland, but his family moved to Knoxville, Tennessee in 1877. Philip Callan
Philip Callan (1837 - 13 June 1902) was an Irish Member of Parliament. Early life Callan was born in Cookstown House Ardee in 1837 and was the son of Owen Callan. He studied law at Trinity College Dublin, and also at the King's Inns as can be seen in his papers for Kings Inns Admittance. He was called to the Bar in Dublin in 1865 and shortly after was also called to the English Bar. Member of Parliament Callan was elected to Parliament as a Liberal, for the Borough constituency of Dundalk, in 1868. Re-elected as a Home Ruler in the 1874 general election, he was elected also for County Louth. He chose to continue sitting for the Dundalk seat. In 1880, however, he ran for the Louth constituency instead and was elected, remaining as MP until the 1885 general election. He tried, unsuccessfully, to be re-elected in 1892 and 1896.
