California State Assembly Republican Caucus
The California State Assembly Republican Caucus is the formal organization of Republican Members in the California State Assembly, who hold 18 of its 80 seats after the 2022 general election. It is one of the Assembly’s two officially recognized political party caucuses and is led by Assembly Member James Gallagher, the Assembly Republican Leader (Minority Leader of the State Assembly). Republican Party (United States)
The Republican Party, also referred to as the GOP ("Grand Old Party"), is one of the two major contemporary political parties in the United States. The GOP was founded in 1854 by anti-slavery activists who opposed the Kansas–Nebraska Act, which allowed for the potential expansion of chattel slavery into the western territories. Since Ronald Reagan's presidency in the 1980s, conservatism has been the dominant ideology of the GOP. It has been the main political rival of the Democratic Party since the mid-1850s. Dennis Kelly Seyarto (born 1962) is an American politician serving as the State Senator from the 32nd State Senatorial district. He also served as a member of the California State Assembly from the 67th district from 2020 until his election to the California State Senate in 2022. James Brulte
James L. Brulte (born April 13, 1956) is an American politician and former chairman of the California Republican Party, having served from March 3, 2013 to February 24, 2019. Brulte formerly served as a Republican in the California State Senate, representing the 31st district, from 1996 to 2004. He also served as the Senate Republican leader from 2000 to 2004. Ross Johnson (politician)
James Ross Johnson (September 28, 1939 – August 16, 2017) was an American politician and lawyer. He was the first person in the California Legislature to become his party's leader in both the State Assembly and State Senate. From Irvine, California, Johnson went to California State University, Fullerton and Western State College of Law. He practiced law. Johnson served in the California State Assembly from 1978 to 1995 and then served in the California State Senate from 1995 to 2004. Pat Nolan
Patrick James Nolan (born June 16, 1950) is an American lawyer, politician and conservative activist. Political career In 1978, Nolan was elected to the California State Assembly, serving the 41st district comprising Glendale, Burbank, Toluca Lake and Sunland-Tujunga. He also served the 43rd district. from 1992 to 1994. In 1984, he was elected Assembly Republican Leader, and began an aggressive campaign to elect a Republican majority in the Assembly. Conviction Nolan was part of an FBI sting operation called Shrimpscam which targeted officials who accepted illegal campaign contributions. He was charged with seven counts of corruption. He entered into a plea deal and admitted to one count of racketeering in 1993. As a now convicted felon, Nolan resigned his seat and was sentenced to thirty three months in prison.
