Calgary-Northern Hills
Calgary-Northern Hills is a provincial electoral district in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The district was created in the 2010 boundary redistribution and is mandated to return a single member to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta using the first past the post voting system. History The electoral district was created in the 2010 Alberta boundary re-distribution. It was created from Calgary-Mackay which was split to make this district while the rest was merged with Calgary-Nose Hill to make Calgary-Mackay-Nose Hill. Teresa Woo-Paw
Teresa Yan-Yi Woo-Paw (; born October 29, 1958) is a Canadian politician and former Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta representing the constituency of Calgary-Northern Hills as a Progressive Conservative. Early life Woo-Paw was born in Hong Kong. She graduated from the University of Calgary in 1982 with a Bachelor of Social Work degree and has been an active member of the Calgary-Mackay community for more than 30 years. Professional career Prior to her election to the Legislature, Woo-Paw was employed as a private consultant providing diversity training, program facilitation and instruction. Alberta provincial electoral districts are currently single member ridings that each elect one member to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta. There are 87 districts fixed in law in Alberta. History The original twenty five districts were drawn up by Liberal Member of Parliament Frank Oliver prior to the first general election of 1905. The original boundaries were widely regarded as being gerrymandered to favour the Alberta Liberal Party, although the Liberal Party did receive the majority of votes in the 1905 election and thus rightly formed majority government. Every boundary redistribution since 1905 has been based on the original boundaries, with districts being split or merged. Calgary-North (previously styled Calgary North) is a single member electoral district in Calgary, Alberta. The electoral district existed from 1959 to 1971, and was re-established for the 2019 Alberta general election. Boundary history 1959 Redistribution The Alberta government decided to return to using the first past the post system of voting from Single Transferable Vote for the 1959 general election. The province redistributed the Calgary and Edmonton super riding's and standardized the voting system across the province. Calgary-North East (previously styled Calgary North East) is a provincial electoral district in Calgary, Alberta. The riding has existed twice, having been contested in the 1959 and abolished soon after, becoming Calgary East. It was re-established in time for the 2019 general election in the Legislative Assembly of Alberta. Boundary history The historic 1959 redistribution of the provincial ridings of Calgary and Edmonton marked the transition back to First Past the Post.
