Caleb Lomavita
Caleb Kaimi Kaleipomaikai Lomavita (born November 18, 2002) is an American professional baseball catcher in the Washington Nationals organization. Amateur career Lomavita attended Saint Louis School in Honolulu, Hawaii, where he played baseball. He was named the Gatorade Hawaii Baseball Player of the year after his senior season in 2021. He attended the MLB Draft Combine, but went unselected in the 2021 Major League Baseball draft and enrolled at the University of California, Berkeley, to play college baseball for the California Golden Bears. As a freshman for Cal in 2022, Lomavita appeared in 55 games and hit .272 with seven home runs and 46 RBI. After the season, he played collegiate summer baseball with the Cotuit Kettleers of the Cape Cod Baseball League, and was named a league all-star. Catcher
Catcher is a position in baseball and softball. When a batter takes their turn to hit, the catcher crouches behind home plate, in front of the (home) umpire, and receives the ball from the pitcher. In addition to this primary duty, the catcher is also called upon to master many other skills in order to field the position well. The role of the catcher is similar to that of the wicket-keeper in cricket. Positioned behind home plate and facing toward the outfield, the catcher can see the whole field, and is therefore in the best position to direct and lead the other players in a defensive play. The catcher typically calls for pitches using PitchCom, or hand signals. The calls are based on the pitcher's mechanics and strengths, as well as the batter's tendencies and weaknesses. Cotuit Kettleers
The Cotuit Kettleers are a collegiate summer baseball team based in the village of Cotuit, Massachusetts, which is in the southwest corner of the town of Barnstable, Massachusetts, Barnstable. The team is a member of the Cape Cod Baseball League (CCBL) and plays in the league's West Division. The Kettleers play their home games at Lowell Park (ballpark), Lowell Park in Cotuit. The team has been owned and operated by the non-profit Cotuit Athletic Association since 1947. The Kettleers most recently won the CCBL championship in 2019 when they defeated the Harwich Mariners two games to none to win the best of three championship series. The Wilmington Blue Rocks are a Minor League Baseball team of the South Atlantic League and the High-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals.
