Calcutta South (Lok Sabha Constituency)
Kolkata Dakshin Lok Sabha constituency (earlier known as Calcutta South Lok Sabha constituency) is one of the 543 Lok Sabha (parliamentary) constituencies in India. The constituency centres on the southern part of Kolkata in West Bengal. While four of the seven legislative assembly segments on No. 23 Kolkata Dakshin Lok Sabha constituency are in Kolkata district, three are in South 24 Parganas district. Considered to be a bastion of the Trinamool Congress, it has been won by the party since its formation in 1998. Prior to it, the seat was a stronghold of Indian National Congress. TMC's founder and current chief minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee was the longest holder of the seat. The All India Trinamool Congress (; AITC), simply known as Trinamool Congress, is an Indian political party that is mainly influential in the state of West Bengal. It was founded by Mamata Banerjee on 1 January 1998 as a breakaway faction from the Indian National Congress and rapidly rose to prominence in the politics of West Bengal under her leadership. Firhad Hakim
Firhad Hakim (born 1 January 1959) is an Indian politician serving since 2018 as the 38th mayor of Kolkata. He is also the Cabinet Minister of Urban Development and Municipal Affairs and Housing in the Government of West Bengal. He is a MLA of the Trinamool Congress Party from Kolkata Port and a member of National Working Committee of All India Trinamool Congress. Kolkata district (formerly known as Calcutta district) is a district in the Indian States and union territories of India, state of West Bengal. Partha Chatterjee (politician)
Partha Chatterjee (born 6 October 1952) is an Indian politician. He earlier served as the Minister of Commerce and Industries and formerly served as the Education Minister of Government of West Bengal. He represented the Trinamool Congress. He also held the political office of Secretary General of the TMC. In 2022, he was suspended indefinitely from the party following his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate. The Delimitation Commission of India is a commission established by the Government of India under the provisions of the Delimitation Commission Act, tasked with redrawing the boundaries of legislative assembly and Lok Sabha constituencies based on the last census. The present delimitation of constituencies has been done on the basis of the 2001 census under the provisions of the Delimitation Act, 2002.
