Partha Chatterjee (politician)
Partha Chatterjee (born 6 October 1952) is an Indian politician. He earlier served as the Minister of Commerce and Industries and formerly served as the Education Minister of Government of West Bengal. He represented the Trinamool Congress. He also held the political office of Secretary General of the TMC. In 2022, he was suspended indefinitely from the party following his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate. Early life Chatterjee was born in Calcutta. He attended Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya, Narendrapur though some former students of the Mission claimed that he was only there for a year, after which he was given a transfer certificate. He studied economics from Asutosh College and completed his MBA from IISWBM. Political career Chatterjee worked as an HR professional with Andrew Yule. Partha Chatterjee (born 5 November 1947) is an Indian political scientist and anthropologist. He was the director of the Centre for Studies in Social Sciences, Calcutta from 1997 to 2007 and continues as an honorary professor of political science. He is also a professor of anthropology and South Asian studies at Columbia University and a member of the Subaltern Studies Collective. Chatterjee received the Fukuoka Asian Culture Prize in 2009. Education He completed a BA (1967) and an M.A (1970) in political science from Presidency College, Calcutta and Calcutta University respectively. He completed his Ph.D. (1972) in international relations from the University of Rochester. The West Bengal Legislative Assembly (ISO 15919, ISO: ''Paścimabaṅga Vidhānasabhā'') is the unicameral legislature of the Indian state of West Bengal, located in eastern India. It consists of 294 members directly elected from single-seat constituencies through the first-past-the-post voting, FPTP voting system.
