Cajueiro da Praia is one of the four coastal cities of Piauí, Brazil. The municipality contains part of the Delta do Parnaíba Environmental Protection Area, created in 1996. The city is home to the Cashew of A Praia (''Cajueiro da Praia''), which is either the largest cashew tree in the world, at , or the second largest, after the Cashew of Pirangi. Piaui (, ) is one of the states of Brazil, located in the country's Northeast Region. The state has 1.6% of the Brazilian population and produces 0.7% of the Brazilian GDP. Piaui has the shortest coastline of any coastal Brazilian state at 66 km (41 mi), and the capital, Teresina, is the only state capital in the northeast to be located inland. The Delta do Parnaíba Environmental Protection Area ( pt, Área de Proteção Ambiental Delta do Parnaíba) is a federally-administered environmental protection area that covers parts of the coasts of the states of Maranhão, Piauí and Ceará, Brazil. The cashew tree (''Anacardium occidentale'') is a tropical evergreen tree native to South America in the genus '' Anacardium'' that produces the cashew seed and the cashew apple accessory fruit. The tree can grow as tall as , but the dwarf cultivars, growing up to , prove more profitable, with earlier maturity and greater yields. The cashew seed is commonly considered a snack nut (cashew nut) eaten on its own, used in recipes, or processed into cashew cheese or cashew butter. Like the tree, the nut is often simply called a cashew. Cashew allergies are triggered by the proteins found in tree nuts, and cooking often does not remove or change these proteins.
