Caithness - Moray Link
The CaithnessMoray Link is a HVDC submarine power cable beneath the Moray Firth in Scotland, linking Spittal in Caithness and Blackhillock in Moray. Constructed by Scottish & Southern Electricity Networks, it is capable of transmitting up to 1,200 MW of power. It was officially completed in January 2019, under budget at a cost of £970million, and was reported as the largest single investment in the northern Scottish electricity network since the 1950s. The link was constructed to improve the connectivity of the Scottish electricity transmission network, and allow increased flow of electricity from renewable energy sources in the north of Scotland, such as the Beatrice and Dorenell wind farms. Shetland HVDC Connection is a high-voltage direct current submarine power cable under construction to connect Shetland to the British mainland. Current status In April 2022, the project was described as "on track to be completed by 2024". The subsea cable installation is ongoing, and expected to continue until 2023. The Western HVDC Link is a high-voltage direct current (HVDC) undersea electrical link in the United Kingdom, between Hunterston in Western Scotland and Flintshire Bridge ( Connah's Quay) in North Wales, routed to the west of the Isle of Man. It has a transmission capacity of 2,250 MW and became fully operational in 2019. Construction The project cost £1.2billion to build. HVDC Kingsnorth
HVDC Kingsnorth was a high-voltage direct-current (HVDC) transmission system connecting Kingsnorth in Kent to two sites in London. It was at one time the only application of the technology of high voltage direct current transmission for the supply of transformer stations in a city, and the first HVDC link to be embedded within an AC system, rather than interconnecting two asynchronous systems. It was also the first HVDC scheme to be equipped with self-tuning harmonic filters and to be controlled with a "Phase Locked Oscillator", a principle which subsequently became standard on all HVDC systems.
