Cairo Dodgers
The Cairo Dodgers were a minor league baseball team based in Cairo, Illinois. As a minor league affiliate of the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1949 and 1950, the Cairo Dodgers played as members of the Kentucky–Illinois–Tennessee League (KITTY League), qualifying for the playoffs in their first season. Cairo hosted minor league home games at Dodger Field. History In 1897, minor league baseball began in the city, when the Cairo Egyptians played the season as charter members of the Class C level Central League. Another Egyptians team played in the 1903 Kentucky–Illinois–Tennessee League (KITTY League), followed in league play by the 1904 Cairo Champions and Cario Giants (1905–1906). The Egyptians resumed play from 1911 to 1914 in the second KITTY League and returned from 1922 to 1924, playing in another incarnation of the league. Leicester Moody (May 14, 1917 – July 4, 1998) was an American Negro league first baseman in the 1940s. Playing career Kansas City Monarchs 1944 Lee Moody first broke into the Negro Leagues in 1944 with the Kansas City Monarchs as an outfielder, hitting .267 in 106 league at bats. 1945 When the Monarchs' regular first baseman Buck O'Neil left the team to serve in the United States Navy during World War II, Moody was quickly moved to first base. Moody appeared in 42 league games at his new position, hitting .331 with a .411 slugging percentage. The Paducah Chiefs are a collegiate summer baseball team in Paducah, Kentucky. They are a member of the Ohio Valley League. The Chiefs has been the primary nickname for various Paducah teams, who began play in 1897. Early incarnations of the Paducah Chiefs played in the Kentucky–Illinois–Tennessee League (KITTY League) in 1903 and 1912–1913, and in the Mississippi–Ohio Valley League in 1949–1950.
