Caiari Airport was an airport that served Porto Velho, Brazil until 1969, when Governador Jorge Teixeira de Oliveira International Airport was opened. On that very occasion the airport was closed. History Caiari Airport was the first airport of Porto Velho, Brazil. Because of its proximity to the urban center, the airport was closed on April 16, 1969, when Governador Jorge Teixeira de Oliveira International Airport was opened at a different location. The former runway had one of its thresholds at the corner of present Farqhar and Pinheiro Machado Avenues. This area is now totally urbanized. Governador Jorge Teixeira De Oliveira International Airport
Porto Velho–Governador Jorge Teixeira de Oliveira International Airport , also called Belmonte Airport referring to the neighborhood where it is located, is an airport serving Porto Velho, Brazil. Since 3 July 2002, the airport has been named after Jorge Teixeira de Oliveira (1922-1987), the first Governor of the State of Rondônia. The airport is operated by Vinci SA. Some of its facilities are shared with the Porto Velho Air Force Base of the Brazilian Air Force. History The airport was opened on 16 April 1969 as a replacement for Caiari Airport, which was then closed. The airport was operated by Infraero between 1979 and 2021. Serviços Aéreos Cruzeiro do Sul was the second oldest airline of Brazil, tracing its origins to 1927, when it was founded as Syndicato Condor, a subsidiary of Deutsche Luft Hansa. Paraense Transportes Aéreos was a Brazilian airline founded in 1952. It ceased operations in 1970. History Paraense Transportes Aéreos was a Brazilian airline which was founded on February 18, 1952 by Antônio Alves Affonso Ramos Junior and made its maiden flight on March 30 of the same year, using a Consolidated PBY-5A Catalina. Regular passenger and cargo flights started in 1957 using a Curtiss C-46 to fly from Belém to Rio de Janeiro via Pedro Afonso, Cristalândia and Brasília. In fact, Paraense was one of the first airlines to have regular services to Brasília, the new Brazilian capital, inaugurated in 1960. In 1960 it started the route São Paulo, Cuiabá, Porto Velho, Rio Branco.
