''Cahiers d'Art'' is a French artistic and literary journal founded in 1926 by Christian Zervos. ''Cahiers d'Art'' is also an eponymous publishing house which has published many monographs on artists living in France in the first half of the twentieth century. Publications include the definitive catalogue of works by Pablo Picasso, ''Pablo Picasso par Christian Zervos'', in 33 volumes, with over 16,000 images. ''Cahiers d'Art'' carries no advertising and is published on an irregular schedule. History The journal, founded by art critic Christian Zervos in Paris at 14, rue du Dragon in 1926, and was published until 1960. Though publication was interrupted from 1941 to 1943, the first post-war issue was dated 1940–1944 and focused on poets and writers from the Resistance, including Vercors. Staffan Ahrenberg
Staffan Ahrenberg (born 27 September 1957, in Stockholm) is a Swedish art collector, entrepreneur, film producer, and the owner and publisher of the French publishing house Cahiers d'art. Early life Born the second child of businessman and art collector Theodor Ahrenberg (1912–89) and Ulla Ahrenberg (born Frisell), Ahrenberg spent his childhood in Stockholm and Chexbres, Switzerland, where the family relocated in 1962. He was exposed to art from a young age through his father's extensive collection, assembled between the late 1940s and 1980s and featuring works by Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Marc Chagall, Le Corbusier, Olle Bærtling, Sam Francis, Mark Tobey and Lucio Fontana. Vincent Willem van Gogh (; 30 March 185329 July 1890) was a Dutch Post-Impressionist painter who is among the most famous and influential figures in the history of Western art. Wolfgang Robert Paalen (July 22, 1905 in Vienna, Austria – September 24, 1959 in Taxco, Mexico) was an Austrian-Mexican painter, sculptor, and Aesthetics, art philosopher. Giuseppe Maria Alberto Giorgio de Chirico ( ; ; 10 July 1888 – 20 November 1978) was an Italian artist and writer born in Greece. In the years before World War I, he founded the art movement, which profoundly influenced the surrealists. His best-known works often feature Ancient Roman architecture, Roman arcades, long shadows, mannequins, trains, and illogical perspective. His imagery reflects his affinity for the philosophy of Arthur Schopenhauer and of Friedrich Nietzsche, and for the mythology of his birthplace. Jean Lurçat (; 1 July 1892 – 6 January 1966) was a French artist noted for his role in the revival of contemporary tapestry. Biography He was born in Bruyères, Vosges, the son of Lucien Jean Baptiste Lurçat and Marie Emilie Marguerite L'Hote. He was the brother of André Lurçat, who became an architect.
