Mouse On Mars
Mouse on Mars is a German electronic music duo formed in 1993 by Jan St. Werner and Andi Toma. Their music is a blend of electronic genres including IDM, dub, krautrock, breakbeat and ambient, featuring heavy use of organic analog synth and cross-frequency modulation. Their music also features live instrumentation including strings, horns, drums, bass, and guitar. History St. Werner, from Cologne, and Toma, from Düsseldorf, are childhood friends who were born on the same day and in the same hospital. They both experimented with electronic music in the mid 1990s. On earlier recordings, their music was primarily krautrock, dub, techno and ambient, and did not feature vocals, but more recent recordings increasingly include vocals from featured guest artists, many of whom have toured with the duo. ''Dots and Loops'' is the fifth studio album by English-French rock band Stereolab. It was released on 22 September 1997 and was issued by Duophonic Records and Elektra Records. The band co-produced the album with John McEntire and Andi Toma, and recording took place at their respective studios in Chicago and Düsseldorf. It was their first album to be recorded straight to Digital Audio Tape and produced with Pro Tools. The album explores jazz and electronic sounds, and is influenced by bossa nova and 1960s pop music. Its lyrics address matters such as consumerism, the "spectacle", materialism, and human interaction. ''Dots and Loops'' reached number 19 on the UK Albums Chart, as well as number 111 on the ''Billboard'' 200 chart in the United States. Mary Hansen
Mary Therese Hansen (1 November 1966 9 December 2002) was an Australian guitarist and singer. She joined the London-based avant-pop band Stereolab in 1992. As a member, Hansen recorded six studio albums from '' Transient Random-Noise Bursts with Announcements'' (August 1993) to '' Sound-Dust'' (August 2001). As a side-project, in late 1999 she formed the space rock group Schema with members of Seattle-based band Hovercraft, and they issued their debut album, ''Schema'', on 19 September 2000. ''Miss Modular'' is a 1997 EP by the post-rock band Stereolab. The title track served as the lead single from their album '' Dots and Loops''. It was produced in collaboration with the group Mouse on Mars. Dan the Automator remixed the title track. All four of its tracks were re-released on the '' Oscillons from the Anti-Sun'' compilation. Stereolab
Stereolab are an English people, Anglo-French avant-pop band formed in London in 1990. Led by the songwriting team of Tim Gane and Lætitia Sadier, the group's sound incorporates repetitive motorik beats with the use of vintage electronic keyboards and female vocals sung in English and French, drawing influences from krautrock, funk, jazz, 1960s Yé-yé, French pop and Brazilian music. Their lyrics have political and philosophical themes influenced by the Surrealist and Situationist International, Situationist art movements.
