Amílcar Cabral International Airport
Amílcar Cabral International Airport , also known as Sal International Airport, is the main international airport of Cape Verde. The airport is named after the revolutionary leader Amílcar Cabral. It is located west-southwest from Espargos on Sal Island. Sal is the main hub for the national airline, Cabo Verde Airlines; and serves as a base for carrier Cabo Verde Express. This airport was also one of NASA's locations for a facility to handle the Space Shuttle after reentering from orbit. History Foundation and early years The first airport on Sal Island was built in 1939 by Italy, as a fuel and provisions stopping-point on routes from Europe to South America. The first flight, an arrival from Rome and Seville, was on 15 December 1939. As a consequence of World War II, the Italian involvement in the airport project ceased. Pedro Álvares Cabral (; born Pedro Álvares de Gouveia; ) was a Portuguese nobleman, military commander, navigator and explorer regarded as the European discoverer of Brazil. He was the first human in history to ever be on four continents, uniting all of them in his famous voyage of 1500, where he also conducted the first substantial exploration of the northeast coast of South America and claimed it for Portugal. While details of Cabral's early life remain unclear, it is known that he came from a minor noble family and received a good education. He was appointed to head an expedition to India in 1500, following Vasco da Gama's newly opened route around Africa. Cabrales (Spanish language, Spanish: ''queso de Cabrales'', Asturian language, Asturian: ''quesu Cabrales'') is a blue cheese made in the Artisan cheese, artisan tradition by rural dairy farmers in Asturias, Spain. This cheese can be made from pure, unpasteurized cow’s milk or blended in the traditional manner with goat and/or sheep milk, which lends the cheese a stronger, spicier flavor.

Cabral (2001–2017), also known as JP, was a gold medalist dressage horse ridden by Natasha Baker. The Polish-born British dressage horse, a Paralympic gold winner (2012) in Rio, was euthanized. Background JP was previously owned by Christian Landolt, a FEI Dressage and Eventing rider and judge. He brought JP to event however he was not bold enough in the cross country. Paralympics Natasha Baker was selected as part of the para-dressage squad for Great Britain at the 2012 Summer Paralympics held in London, United Kingdom. In the individual championship test grade II event Baker and Cabral scored 76.857% to set a new Paralympic record for the grade II classification and win the gold medal ahead of German defending champion Britta Napel who won silver with a score of 76.000%. The Amílcar Cabral Cup was an international association football tournament for Western African nations. The competition originally was played on an annual basis until 1989, since then it was played on a biennial basis. The tournament is named after Amílcar Cabral. There has been no edition since 2007. Mauritania was to host in 2009, then rescheduled the tournament to 2010 and later cancelled it altogether. History In 1970 a predecessor tournament was started. The Tournoi de la Zone II organized by the ''Conseil Supérieur du Sport en Afrique (CSSA)'' was held five times until 1977 with Mali winning three and Guinea winning two titles. African Youth Amílcar Cabral () is the youth wing of PAIGC in Guinea-Bissau. JAAC was founded on September 12, 1974, in Boé. After the separation of PAICV from PAIGC, the Cape Verdean section of JAAC became a separate organization, also called JAAC. Cabral Neculai Ibacka Zabana (), popularly known as just Cabral (born 4 October 1977) is a Romanian television personality, actor, philanthropist, Tae Bo coach, and 1994 European vice-champion at kick-boxing. Amílcar Lopes Cabral (; – ) was a Bissau-Guinean and Cape Verdean agricultural engineer, political organizer, and diplomat. He was one of Africa's foremost anti-colonial leaders. He was also a pan-Africanist and intellectual nationalist revolutionary poet. Also known by the ''nom de guerre'' Abel Djassi, he led the nationalist movement of Guinea-Bissau and the Cape Verde Islands and the ensuing war of independence in Guinea-Bissau. Adilson Tavares Varela (born 22 October 1988), commonly known as Cabral, is a former professional footballer. He spent most of his career at Basel, winning ten honours including five Swiss Super League championships and three Swiss Cup titles. He also had brief spells in three foreign countries.
