Caboonbah Undenominational Church
Caboonbah Undenominational Church is a union church on the Cressbrook-Caboonbah Road, Mount Beppo, approximately from Toogoolawah in the Somerset Region of South East Queensland, Australia. It was founded by Henry Plantagenet Somerset, and built by Lars Andersen in 1905 to serve a farming community at Mount Beppo. The wooden structure was designed by Mrs Katherine Rose Somerset and takes its name, "Caboonbah", from the Somerset family homestead, Caboonbah Homestead, nearby. History Caboonbah Church was developed as an undenominational or ' Union' church when all denominations in small communities used one building for worship according to their own faith until each denomination could afford a building of its own. Resident Anglican, Presbyterian, and Methodist ministers residing at Esk by 1905 visited Caboonbah Church regularly. Alexander James Skinner (2 November 1910 – 3 October 1968) was a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Biography Skinner was born at Boonah, Queensland, the son of William Skinner and his wife Fanny Elizabeth (née Thomas). He attended school at Boonah and Ipswich, and became a fitter and turner at the Ipswich Railway Workshops. He was later costs clerk at the Main Roads Department. Somerset Regional Council
The Somerset Region is a Local government in Australia, local government area located in the West Moreton region of South East Queensland, Australia, northwest of the City of Brisbane. The region is centred on the town of Esk, Queensland, Esk, which also serves as the Administrative centre, council seat. Somerset was created in 2008 from a merger of the shires of Shire of Esk, Esk and Shire of Kilcoy, Kilcoy, and is known as the Brisbane Valley, owing to the Brisbane River which courses through the region. However, significant parts of the region lie outside the Hydrology, hydrological Brisbane Valley. Wivenhoe Dam
Wivenhoe Dam is a rock and earth-fill embankment dam with a concrete spillway across the Brisbane River in South East Queensland, Australia. The dam takes it names from the local Wivenhoe Pocket rural community. The dam wall is located about by road from the centre of Brisbane. The primary purpose of the dam is the supply of potable water for the Brisbane and Ipswich regions. South-east Queensland's largest dam also provides for flood mitigation control, hydroelectricity, and recreation. The impounded reservoir is called Lake Wivenhoe and the dam, the lake and a narrow strip of surrounding land forms a locality also called Lake Wivenhoe. Wivenhoe Dam was planned in the early 1970s. The Shire of Esk was a local government area in South East Queensland, Australia, located about west – northwest of Brisbane. It stretched from the Lockyer Valley north and west to the Great Dividing Range and up the valley of the Brisbane River. Donald Alastair Cameron
Donald Alastair Cameron (17 March 1900 – 5 January 1974) was an Australian politician. He was a member of the Liberal Party and served in federal parliament from 1946 to 1961, representing the Division of Oxley in Queensland. He was a doctor by profession and held ministerial office as Minister for Health in the Menzies government from 1956 to 1961. After losing his seat he served a term as High Commissioner to New Zealand (1962–1965). Early life Cameron was born in Ipswich, Queensland. He received his education at Ipswich Grammar School and the University of Sydney, where he graduated in arts and medicine. From 1927 to 1933 he was a medical officer at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and the Coast Hospital in Sydney. In 1933, he married Rhoda Florence McLean.
