Kues
Bernkastel-Kues () is a town on the Middle Mosel in the Bernkastel-Wittlich district in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. It is well-known for its winegrowing. The town is a state-recognized health resort (''Erholungsort''), seat of the ''Verbandsgemeinde'' of Bernkastel-Kues and birthplace of one of the most famous German polymaths, the medieval churchman and philosopher Nikolaus von Kues (Cusanus). Geography Location Bernkastel-Kues lies in the Mosel valley, roughly from Trier. The greatest elevation is the ''Olymp'' (415 m above sea level), and the lowest point (107 m above sea level) lies on the Mosel's banks. Nicholas of Cusa (1401 – 11 August 1464), also referred to as Nicholas of Kues and Nicolaus Cusanus (), was a German Catholic bishop and polymath active as a philosopher, theologian, jurist, mathematician, and astronomer. One of the first German proponents of Renaissance humanism, he made spiritual and political contributions to European culture. A notable example of this is his mystical or spiritual writings on "learned ignorance," as well as his participation in power struggles between Rome and the German states of the Holy Roman Empire. As papal legate to Germany from 1446, he was appointed cardinal for his merits by Pope Nicholas V in 1448 and Prince-Bishop of Brixen two years later. In 1459, he became vicar general in the Papal States. Nicholas has remained an influential figure. The Colleges and Universities Sports Association is an athletic association composed of colleges and universities in the Philippines. It was established in 1994. The league ended in 2007. History The league was first established in 1995. In the league's first ever men's basketball finals, TIP faced off against MLQU. TIP became the league's first champion in men's basketball. TIP then went on to win the inaugural overall championship. On August 17, 1996, the 2nd season began with PCU as host. Aside from hosting, PCU had also joined the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) while also playing in the National Capital Region Athletic Association (NCRAA). The MLQU Stallions and the CCP Bobcats faced each other that season for the men's basketball championship. The Council of Unions of South Africa (CUSA) was a national trade union federation in South Africa. History The federation was founded on 14 September 1980 by the former affiliates of the Black Consultative Committee which did not wish to join the Federation of South African Trade Unions, as they felt it was dominated by white activists. The new federation was more centralised than the former committee, and it was led by general secretary Phiroshaw Camay. The federation strongly opposed the apartheid system, and affiliated to both the National Forum Committee and the United Democratic Front. The council had seven affiliates, and saw initial growth, with 49,014 members by the end of 1981. In 1982, it sought to organise mine workers, and so established the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM). All the CUSA affiliates grew, with the NUM's growth being particularly rapid.
