The 2025 United Nations Climate Change Conference, or Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC, more commonly known as COP30, is the upcoming 30th United Nations Climate Change conference, to be held in Belém, Brazil, from 10 to 21 November 2025. The city's candidacy was announced by Brazilian president Lula da Silva during his visit to the COP 27, held in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, and made official in January 2023. Avenida Liberdade (Brazil Highway)
The Avenida Liberdade is a four-lane highway currently being constructed in protected Amazon rainforest areas in preparation for the November 2025 COP30 climate summit in Belém, Brazil. The infrastructure project spans over thirteen kilometers through protected rainforest territory, and plans to incorporate several environmental-focused designs including wildlife crossings to allow animal movement, bicycle lanes, and solar-powered lighting systems. The project represents one of numerous development initiatives being implemented to accommodate the anticipated 50,000 attendees, including several world leaders and high-ranking delegates, expected at the climate conference. United Nations Climate Change Conference
The United Nations Climate Change Conferences are yearly conferences held in the framework of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). They serve as the formal meeting of the UNFCCC parties – the conference of the parties, Conference of the Parties (COP) – to assess progress in dealing with climate change, and beginning in the mid-1990s, to negotiate the Kyoto Protocol to establish legally binding obligations for developed countries to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. Starting in 2005 the conferences have also served as the "Conference of the Parties Serving as the Meeting of Parties to the Kyoto Protocol" (CMP); also parties to the convention that are not parties to the protocol can participate in protocol-related meetings as observers.
