CONMEBOL Pre-Olympic Tournament
The CONMEBOL Preolímpico () is an international association football event in the South America region organized by CONMEBOL. It is the qualification tournament for the football at the Summer Olympics, football tournament at the Olympic Games. In Football at the 1960 Summer Olympics – Men's qualification, 1960, teams from North America, North and Central America also entered the tournament. CONMEBOL
CONMEBOL ( ) or CSF (; ; ), is the continental governing body of football in South America and it is one of FIFA's six continental confederations. The oldest continental confederation in the world, its headquarters are located in Luque, Paraguay. CONMEBOL is responsible for the organization and governance of South American football's major international tournaments. With 10 member football associations, it has the fewest members of all the confederations in FIFA. CONMEBOL national teams have won ten FIFA World Cups (Brazil five, Argentina three and Uruguay two) and CONMEBOL clubs have won 22 Intercontinental Cups and four FIFA Club World Cups. Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay have won two Olympic gold medals each. The 1996 CONMEBOL Pre-Olympic Tournament began on 18 February 1996 and was the 10th CONMEBOL Pre-Olympic Tournament. This was the second tournament open to players under the age of 23 without any other restriction. There was no qualification stage and all 10 members of CONMEBOL automatically qualified. The winner and the runner-up qualified for 1996 Summer Olympics. Players born on or after 1 January 1973 were eligible to play in this competition.
