CMLL World Heavyweight Champion
The CMLL World Heavyweight Championship () is a men's professional wrestling world heavyweight championship created and promoted by the Mexican (''lucha libre'') promotion (CMLL). It was introduced in 1991 to signal CMLL's independence from the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA), as CMLL had left the NWA in the late 1980s but had continued to promote the NWA's championships. As part of the move away from the NWA, CMLL established championships designated as "CMLL World Championships" for several weight divisions. The Heavyweight Championship was the first CMLL title to be created, and the inaugural champion was Konnan el Bárbaro, who won the title on June 9, 1991. The current champion is Gran Guerrero, who is in his first reign. He defeated Hechicero on November 7, 2022. Gran Guerrero (born 1993) is a Mexican ''luchador enmascarado'' (or masked professional wrestler), who works for Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL), where he is the current CMLL World Heavyweight Champion, in his first reign. He portrays a ''rudo'' ("bad guy") wrestling character. He was originally introduced to the wrestling world under the ring name Último Guerrero Jr. in 2009 as the storyline son of Último Guerrero, and later made his wrestling debut under the name Taurus. In 2013 he was given a new image, re-introduced under the ring name "Gran Guerrero", officially acknowledging that he was the much younger brother of Último Guerrero. Mexican National Heavyweight Championship
The Mexican National Heavyweight Championship (called the ''Campeonato Nacional Completo'' in Spanish) is a Mexican lucha libre (professional wrestling) championship created and sanctioned by the Mexico City Boxing and Wrestling Commission (Spanish: ''Comisión de Box y Lucha Libre México D.F.''). While the Commission sanctions the title, it does not promote the events in which the Championship is defended. From 1933 until the mid-1990s, Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) controlled the Championship, since then AAA gained control of the championship, after the Commission granted them control of the championship. In 2006 the championship was abandoned and replaced by the AAA Mega Championship. In 2009 the championship became active again on the Mexican Independent circuit until 2013. Arena México is an indoor arena in Mexico City, Mexico, located in the Colonia Doctores neighborhood in the Cuauhtémoc borough. Norman Anthony Smiley (born 28 February 1965) is an English-American retired professional wrestler who is signed to WWE in a Legends deal and as a trainer for NXT.
