CKXP-FM (105.1 FM, "KX 105") is a radio station in Peterborough, Ontario. Owned by Durham Radio, it broadcasts a country music format. History In 1976, Radio CKPT 1420 Ltd. (a division of CHUM Limited), received CRTC approval to operate a new commercial FM station at Peterborough. It would broadcast on a frequency of 105.1 MHz and have an effective radiated power of 50,000 watts (horizontal & vertical). The station was launched on September 16, 1977, with a MOR format. The "QM" in CKQM-FM's call sign stood for "Quality Music". In October 1983, CKQM switched to a country format, becoming ''Country 105''. On March 24, 2009, CKQM received approval by the CRTC to decrease the effective radiated power from 50,000 watts to 7,500 watts, and increasing height above average terrain from 91.5 to 277.5 meters. CKPT-FM (99.7 FM broadcasting, FM, "Pete 99.7") is a radio station in Peterborough, Ontario. Owned by Durham Radio, it broadcasts an adult contemporary format. Its studios and offices are located on George Street North in Peterborough, while its transmitter is located on Greencrest Drive. History 1420 AM CKPT originally began broadcasting at 1420 AM broadcasting, AM on December 1, 1959. The station was powered at 1,000 watts by day and 500 watts at night. It was owned by the Peterborough Broadcasting Company. By the 1980s, the power increased to 10,000 watts day/5,000 watts night. CKPT aired an adult top 40 format in the 80s and 90s. The company owns twelve radio stations and their associated repeaters, which are primarily located in the Golden Horseshoe region of Southern Ontario. Pure Country is a Canadian radio network, that airs on stations owned by Bell Media. Launched in 2019 as a unifying branding for all of the company's country-formatted stations across Canada, the network broadcasts on nine stations nationwide, as well as on selected digital subchannels of radio stations in markets where the company offers digital radio service but does not have a country-formatted primary station. The Canadian Communications Foundation (CCF) was a Canadian nonprofit organization which documented the history of broadcasting in Canada, particularly radio and television networks, programs and broadcasters. The organization was established in 1967 and announced that it would begin wrapping up its work in 2023. Since 1995, the organization distributed its collection via its website.
