CKCB-FM
CKCB-FM is a Canadian radio station broadcasting at 95.1 MHz in Collingwood, Ontario, with an adult contemporary format branded on-air as ''95.1 The Peak FM''. The station began broadcasting in 1965 on 1400 kHz, until it moved to its current frequency in 1994. The station went through different ownerships over the years and in 2000 was acquired by Corus Entertainment. The original on-air personality, who signed on CKCB at a community reception held at the Collingwood Shriner's Hall on the evening of Tuesday October 12, 1965 was Jim Craig, who went on to enjoy a successful Radio and TV career in SW Ontario and Western Canada prior to moving into teaching. Currently, he is a Professor of Broadcast Studies with the faculty of the Seneca College School of Media at York University in Toronto. Collingwood, Ontario
Collingwood is a town in Simcoe County, Ontario, Canada. It is situated on Nottawasaga Bay at the southern point of Georgian Bay. Collingwood is well known as a tourist destination, for its skiing in the winter, and limestone caves along the Niagara Escarpment in the summer. History The land in the area was first inhabited by the Iroquoian languages, Iroquoian-speaking Tionontati, Petun nation, which built a string of villages in the vicinity of the nearby Niagara Escarpment. CIQB-FM
CIQB-FM (101.1 MHz) is a commercial radio station in Barrie, Ontario. The station uses the on-air brand name ''Big 101'' and is owned by Corus Entertainment, which also owns sister station CHAY-FM. CIQB broadcasts a classic hits format, switching to Christmas music for much of November and December. History On August 1, 1949, the station first signed on as CKBB. It was launched by Ralph Snelgrove's Barrie Broadcasting Company at AM 1230. It was Barrie's first radio station, and was initially a mixture of music and talk programming. It moved to 950 AM in 1958. In December 1983, the station was acquired by Kawartha Broadcasting, and in 1987, ownership passed to the broadcasting arm of Power Corporation of Canada. Canadian Communications Foundation
The Canadian Communications Foundation (CCF) was a Canadian nonprofit organization which documented the history of broadcasting in Canada, particularly radio and television networks, programs and broadcasters. The organization was established in 1967 and announced that it would begin wrapping up its work in 2023. Since 1995, the organization distributed its collection via its website. The CCF was established in 1967 by the Canadian Association of Broadcasters. Its mission: to "commemorate throughout Canada the development of electronic communications". By 2020, the foundation started to wind down as its original mission was largely accomplished. CHAY-FM
CHAY-FM (93.1 MHz) is a Canadian radio station in Barrie, Ontario. The station airs a Rhythmic-leaning CHR format, using its on-air brand name as '' Fresh 93.1''. The station is owned by Corus Entertainment. History CHAY signed on the air originally with a hybrid easy listening/ beautiful music format on May 21, 1977, but changed to more of an adult contemporary format the following decade with the decline of beautiful music on FM radio. The station was initially broadcast from a 1,000 foot tower just south of Barrie that it had shared with local television station CKVR-TV. On September 7 of that year, a small plane crashed into the tower, destroying the building and killing everyone on board. AM Broadcasting
AM broadcasting is radio broadcasting using amplitude modulation (AM) transmissions. It was the first method developed for making audio radio transmissions, and is still used worldwide, primarily for medium wave (also known as "AM band") transmissions, but also on the longwave and shortwave radio bands.
