CJWW is a Canadian radio station, airing a country format at 600 AM in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. The station is owned by Elmer Hildebrand via 629112 Saskatchewan Ltd. (trading as Saskatoon Media Group). It shares studios with sister stations CKBL-FM and CJMK-FM at 219 Robin Crescent (as of June 21, 2021). Originally launching at 1370 AM on January 12, 1976, it moved to 750 in 1985, and finally to 600 (the former AM location of sister station CFQC radio) in 1995. Easy listening (including mood music) is a popular music genre and radio format that was most popular during the 1950s to 1970s. It is related to middle-of-the-road (MOR) music and encompasses instrumental recordings of standards, hit songs, non- rock vocals and instrumental covers of selected popular rock songs. The Saskatoon Blades are a major junior ice hockey team playing in the Eastern Division of the Western Hockey League, formerly the Western Canadian Hockey League (WCHL). They are based in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, playing at the 15,195-seat SaskTel Centre. History The Saskatoon Blades began play in 1964. The team previously played as the junior counterpart to the Saskatoon Quakers, until team owner Jim Piggott applied to the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) to change the team's name and colours. The team had also been known as the Saskatoon Wesleys from 1949 to 1955. A new version of the Wesleys emerged in 1966, and along with the Saskatoon Quakers as they joined the North Saskatchewan Junior B Hockey League. CKBL-FM (92.9 FM, "92.9 The Bull") is a radio station in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Owned by 629112 Saskatchewan Ltd. trading as Saskatoon Media Group, it broadcasts a country music format. History The station originated on the AM dial as CFQC, which began broadcasting in 1923. It was founded by electrical supply shop owners A. A. "Pappy" Murphy and David Streb. Murphy bought out Streb in 1932. The station was an affiliate of the Canadian Radio Broadcasting Commission from 1933 to 1936 when it affiliated with the newly formed Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. It lost that affiliation in 1939 when the CBC signed on CBK as its outlet for all of southern and central Saskatchewan. Elmer Hildebrand
Elmer Hildebrand (born 1935) is a Canadian businessman, investor, philanthropist and broadcaster from Altona, Manitoba and current CEO & President of Golden West Broadcasting (Canada). Hildebrand joined Golden West in 1961, just four years after its inception, and served as president for many decades, growing the company to more than forty radio stations, and the largest independent radio broadcaster in Canada. He is a former director of the Canadian Association of Broadcasters and was inducted into the CAB Hall of Fame, Manitoba Business Hall of Fame, and Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame. He also served as President of the Mennonite Heritage Village in Steinbach, Manitoba. He was awarded the Order of Manitoba in 2007 and made a member of the Order of Canada in 2013.
