CIS Executive Committee
The General Secretary of the Commonwealth of Independent States (formerly known as the Executive Secretary) is the head of the CIS Executive Committee, the central body which has served the CIS since its establishment in 1991. The headquarters of the secretary-general, as with the committee, is in Minsk, Belarus. History In late 2022, it was announced that the position's formal title will be changed. By the decision of the Council of Heads of State on 1 January 2023, the formal title of Chairman of the Executive Committee – CIS Executive Secretary was changed to CIS General Secretary. The flag of the Commonwealth of Nations is the official flag used by and representing the Commonwealth of Nations. Its current design dates to 2013, a modification of a design adopted in 1976. Sergey Nikolayevich Lebedev ( rus, Серге́й Никола́евич Ле́бедев, p=sʲɪrˈɡʲej nʲɪkɐˈlajɪvʲɪtɕ ˈlʲebʲɪdʲɪf; born 9 April 1948) is a Russian politician who has been the Executive Secretary of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) since 2007. He had previously been General of the Army in the Russian Armed Forces and Director of Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) from 2000 to 2007. Early life Lebedev graduated in 1970 from the Chernihiv branch of Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. A 1978 graduate (cum laude) of the Diplomatic Academy of the Soviet Foreign Ministry, Lebedev speaks German and English. Excellency is an honorific style given to certain high-level officers of a sovereign state, officials of an international organization, or members of an aristocracy. The Council of Heads of State of the CIS (), abbreviated in the Russian language as the SGG (СГГ), is a working body in the Commonwealth of Independent States. It serves as the supreme body of the CIS, and includes all the chief of state of CIS member states. Regular meetings of the council are held annually.
