CHEF-FM-3
CHEF-FM is a Canadian radio station. Owned by Radio Matagami, the station broadcasts a community radio format on 99.9 MHz in Matagami, Quebec. The station was licensed by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission in 2000. CHEF also has a rebroadcaster, broadcasting on 96.9 FM with the call sign CHEF-FM-3, in Lebel-sur-Quévillon. The station applied to the CRTC in 2006 to add a transmitter at Chibougamau, but was denied because this would have had a negative impact on the financial viability of Chibougamau's CKXO-FM, due to the small size of the market. The station is a member of the Association des radiodiffuseurs communautaires du Québec. Matagami, Quebec
Matagami (, ) is a small town in Quebec, Canada. It is located north of Amos, on Matagami Lake, at the northern terminus of Route 109 and the start of the James Bay Road (French: ''Route de la Baie James''). It is enclaved within the local municipality of Eeyou Istchee James Bay, but administratively independent of it. The town had a population of 1,526 as of the Canada 2011 Census. History Matagami was founded in 1963 with the development of mining in the area. Previously, it existed only as a very small prospecting camp accessible only by float plane, but after a viable mineral deposit was found in the late 1950s a permanent settlement began to be established. In 1962, the Quebec Toponomy Commission attempted to name the new community Mazenod after Charles-Joseph-Eugène de Mazenod, the founder of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate, but after a public outcry by local residents the community was named after Matagami Lake. Chibougamau
Chibougamau () is the largest town in Nord-du-Québec, central Quebec, Canada. Located on Lake Gilman, it has a population of 7,233 people (2021 Canadian census). Chibougamau is surrounded by, but not part of, the local municipality of Eeyou Istchee James Bay. Its remoteness from Lac Saint-Jean (over south-east) and Abitibi-Témiscamingue (over south-west) areas causes Chibougamau to provide services for a few smaller communities surrounding it (Mistissini, Oujé-Bougoumou, and Chapais) and for the regional resource-based industries. Despite Chibougamau's remoteness, it is only about as far north as Winnipeg and is south of any part of the mainland of England. CKXO-FM is a French-language Canadian radio station in Chibougamau, Quebec. Owned and operated by Cogeco Média following its 2018 acquisition of most of the stations formerly owned by RNC Media, it broadcasts on 93.5 MHz with an average effective radiated power of 19,800 watts and a peak effective radiated power of 75,000 watts ( class C1). The station has an adult contemporary music format branded as Planète 93,5. The station was originally launched on November 21, 1969 by Radio Maria-Chapdelaine, broadcasting on 1240 AM with the call sign CJMD. The station later launched a rebroadcaster in Chapais in 1971, broadcasting on 1340 AM with the call sign CFED. The Canadian Communications Foundation (CCF) was a Canadian nonprofit organization which documented the history of broadcasting in Canada, particularly radio and television networks, programs and broadcasters. The organization was established in 1967 and announced that it would begin wrapping up its work in 2023. Since 1995, the organization distributed its collection via its website.
