The Canadian Football League (CFL; , LCF) is a professional Canadian football league in Canada. It comprises nine teams divided into two divisions, with four teams in the East Division and five in the West Division. The CFL is the highest professional level of Canadian football in the world. The league is headquartered in Toronto. The CFL was officially established on January 19, 1958, upon the merger between the Interprovincial Rugby Football Union or "Big Four" (founded in 1907) and the Western Interprovincial Football Union (WIFU) (founded in March 1936). The Big Four was renamed the Eastern Football Conference in 1960, while the WIFU was renamed the Western Football Conference in 1961. , the league features a 21-week regular season in which each team plays 18 games with 3 bye weeks. Stewart Christopher Johnston (born February 26, 1971) is a Canadian businessman, who is the 15th and current commissioner of the Canadian Football League (CFL) and former president of The Sports Network and Senior Vice President of Bell Media, Content and Sales. Early life Johnston was born in Toronto, Ontario, on February 26, 1971, to Charles Christopher (Chris) Johnston, a lawyer, and Vivian Audrey (née Ash). The third of five children, Johnston's family moved to Ottawa in 1972 when he was one year old. While growing up in Ottawa, he was neighbours with legendary placekicker, kicker of the Ottawa Rough Riders, Gerry Organ.
