History The station was launched in January 1954 as CKLC-FM, by St. Lawrence Broadcasting. AM sister station CKLC-AM was launched at the same time. The station's original frequency was 99.5, and it was an affiliate of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's Dominion Network until the network dissolved in 1962. CKLC-FM's original purpose back in 1953 was to provide a reliable audio link for CKLC-AM, which broadcast from a four-tower array on Wolfe Island. Equalized Bell Telephone broadcast lines were not reliable out to Wolfe Island back in 1953, and the FM signal carried the program feed of CKLC-AM, which was received at the AM transmitter site over the air, and re-broadcast on the ... CKLC-FM (98.9 MHz) is a commercial radio station in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. It broadcasts a country format and is branded on-air as ''Pure Country 99''. It is owned and operated by Bell Media which also owns sister station CFLY-FM. The radio studios and offices are on Princess Street in Kingston. The transmitter is on Dawson Point Road on Wolfe Island. History CKLC, along with its sister station CKLC-FM, began operations in 1953 at 1380 on the AM dial as an affiliate of the CBC's Dominion Network and remained with the network until it dissolved in 1962. The call letters are taken from Kingston's nickname, the "Limestone City". Some of its earliest alumni include newscaster Allan Saunders (Sandzelius), Al Boliska as morning man, and disk jockeys Buddy Guilfoyle and Ron Bertrand. Move Radio
Move Radio is a brand of adult contemporary radio stations heard across Canada. The network was launched on December 27, 2020, by Bell Media. The launch of the network involved a re-branding of eleven radio stations across Canada, five in Ontario, four in British Columbia, one in Nova Scotia and one in New Brunswick. The launch of this network also involved the flipping of CJMG-FM's Top 40/CHR format to AC, as well the CHR format of CIBX-FM to hot AC. All stations adopted the slogan ''Today's Best Variety'', which is similar to other stations that use AC and hot AC formats, and have since then dropped their former brandings, including two stations with the " EZ Rock" brand. CHUM Limited was a Canadian media company based in Toronto, Ontario in operation from 1945 to 2007. The company was founded in 1945 as York Broadcasters Limited when it launched CHUM-AM 1050 but was acquired by salesman Allan Waters in 1954. CHUM had expanded to and owned 33 radio stations across Canada under its CHUM Radio Network division (now Bell Media Radio) and also owned other radio stations. Dominion Network
The Dominion Network was the second English-language radio network of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation from January 1, 1944 to 1962. It consisted of the CBC-owned CJBC radio station in Toronto and a series of 34 privately owned affiliates from coast-to-coast. The Dominion Network was set up as a complementary network to the CBC's main English service which became known as the Trans-Canada Network. Wolfe Island (Ontario)
Wolfe Island is an island at the entrance to the Saint Lawrence River in Lake Ontario near Kingston, Ontario. Wolfe Island is part of Frontenac County, Ontario and the Township of Frontenac Islands.
