CENTR
The Council of European National Top-Level Domain Registries (CENTR) is an organization established to act as a peak body of top-level domain name registries. The organisation was formed in 1998, created as a project of the RIPE Top-level Domain Working Group. As the largest organisation of its kind, it is often called upon to give the view of country-code registries to organisations such as ICANN, the European Commission, the United Nations and the International Telecommunication Union. Internally, it is responsible for information sharing between registries, as well as identifying best practices for the industry. Membership Its members are solely registry organisations such as Nominet UK, IE Domain Registry and DENIC. RIPE
Réseaux IP Européens (RIPE, French for "European IP Networks") is a forum open to all parties with an interest in the technical development of the Internet. The RIPE community's objective is to ensure that the administrative and technical coordination necessary to maintain and develop the Internet continues. It is not a standards body like the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) and does not deal with domain names like ICANN. RIPE is not a legal entity and has no formal membership. This means that anybody who is interested in the work of RIPE can participate through mailing lists and by attending meetings. RIPE has a chair to keep an eye on work between RIPE meetings and to act as its external liaison. Nominet UK is currently delegated by IANA to be the manager of the .uk domain name. Nominet directly manages registrations directly under .uk, and some of the second level domains .co.uk, .org.uk, .sch.uk, .me.uk, .net.uk, .ltd.uk and .plc.uk. Nominet also manages the .wales and .cymru domains. As of February 2021, the .uk register held 10,922,477 .uk domain names. A domain name registry is a database of all domain names and the associated registrant information in the top level domains of the Domain Name System (DNS) of the Internet that enables third party entities to request administrative control of a domain name. Most registries operate on the top-level and second-level of the DNS.
